Job Description: JOB DESCRIPTION Buyer is responsible for the fulfilment of materials demand from assigned suppliers. Activities including, but not necessarily limited to, material procurement, supplier selection and management, inventory planning and control, cost reduction, outsourcing, design change implementation, quality control, internal communication, and support to new product development. Source supply chain with an emphasis on continual improvements to cost, quality, service, and delivery. Act as liaison between suppliers and internal personnel and management. Responsible to add external intelligence to sourcing and supplier management activity. TALENTS NECESSARY FOR SUCCESS Excellent skills in written/verbal communication and negotiation Passion for customer service Ability to multi-task and problem-solve Significant organizational skills Thrives in an environment of juggling priorities and routine interruptions Successfully functions independently as well as in a team environment Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities Sense of urgency, bias for action Ability to manage sensitive information in a professional and confidential manner Interest in continuous learning KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Prepare, process, and distribute purchase orders to suppliers to ensure assigned materials are delivered as needed in support of production and customer service schedules Regularly review ERP purchasing queue for recommended material orders Maintain material master records in ERP system including cost, stock, and reorder points, supplier information, and material documentation Evaluate data on order histories, volumes, and forecasts to determine future material requirements Coordinate incoming movement of materials to ensure availability and delivery when needed to meet production and/or customer service schedules Participate in daily and/or weekly meetings with other departments to ensure material adherence to the production and/or customer service schedules Run daily report to track status of open purchase orders and resolve overdue deliveries with suppliers Interface with suppliers to expedite deliveries Resolve shipment overages and shortages, as well as issues related to non-conforming materials, with suppliers Respond to expedite requests from internal customers and manage resulting fast turnaround purchase orders Source, develop, and manage suppliers of production-related materials Develop and maintain relationship with supplier representatives to maintain good working relations and to discuss items of mutual concern Continuous improvement in the areas of cost reduction, quality, lead times, and service as they relate to the supply chain In support of lean manufacturing, institute inventory and supply chain management programs to promote efficiency and waste reduction Ensure accurate and timely implementation of engineering changes as they relate to sourcing of alternate materials and inventory Organize and maintain planning, procurement, and supplier information through software programs, documentation files, etc. Assist Accounts Payable with resolutions to PO and invoice discrepancies Follow all companywide procedures related to the Purchasing department Actively engage in the facilityโs safety program to assist with achieving the safety goals Assist Purchasing leadership with day-to-day operations as requested QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of two (2) years buying experience in manufacturing environment with proven track record of success in cost reduction, supplier management, process improvement, project management and negotiations Basic knowledge of MS Office software required; intermediate to advanced knowledge preferred Prior experience with manufacturing ERP software required; experience with Made To Manageยฎ a plus Professional procurement, supply chain, or manufacturing certification or active involvement in external educational opportunities required High School Diploma required; College degree preferred #LI-DB1 At Barry-Wehmiller we recognize that people come with a wealth of experience and talent beyond just the technical requirements of a job.
