Job Description: Job Summary: The Mechanical Engineer’s primary role is to perform engineering duties in the design or alteration of machines, sections, systems, units, or parts with the consideration of manufacturing feasibility, cost, and operation efficiency. The Mechanical Engineer works closely with the Value Stream Leader to plan, organize and lead the daily operation for efficient sequence of assembly, resource allocation and team member development in engineering. Success is measured by on-time, on-budget, and quality equipment; executed in alignment with our focus on People, Performance and Products through the framework of the BW Way. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Safety Demonstrate responsibility for the personal safety of self and others by maintaining a clean, orderly hazard free work environment, and compliance with safety practices and regulations. Actively promote Safety in a positive manner, proactively identifies and resolves Safety issues, report any apparent Safety concerns or violations to direct leader and/or CPD leader. Volunteer for a Safety Gemba on the shop floor quarterly. Daily Operations Able to perform all of the duties and responsibilities of a mechanical designer. Execute the plan given to he/she and track projects through the manufacturing process. Provide expertise and support to the manufacturing /assembly teams. Ensure completion of high-quality finished products, including final check out of equipment to assure proper form, fit and function. Maintain storage of build photos and other build documentation on network folders for future reference. Participate with customer visits, including Factory Acceptance Testing. Lead, guide, coach, or mentor less experienced team members; be a positive role model for the team. Provides innovation solutions based on quality, safety, and cost objectives. Demonstrate flexibility and ability to work on other non-core product lines based on demand. Read site reports on a daily basis and provide support to the service teams with technical assistance or parts required using our warranty paperwork SOP as required. Travel is an essential element of your ability to expand knowledge, support our customers, and support business growth needs. Travel could be to company sponsored training, customers’ facilities, or other BW facilities both domestic and international. Estimated at 10% - 15% annually. Other duties as assigned. Leadership Support & Communications Works on a project team in the execution of the mechanical releases required to complete a contract as required by the Value Stream Leader. Participate in internal awareness touch meetings, Team Guru updates, risk burn downs and project wrap-up meetings. BW Way Operational Excellence Participates in and assists with the implementation and sustainment of Operational Excellence best practices in alignment with the BW Way, Barry-Wehmiller’s framework to help us think and act in a systematic and disciplined way. Ensure work areas are organized and maintained in the office and offer recommendations in the shop. Create and utilize standard operating procedures and standard work documentation. Demonstrate enthusiasm and confidence for the working environment and for learning new tasks and accepting responsibilities. Demonstrates willingness to learn and implement new processes when given appropriate instructions. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering with minimum of 2-4 years of related experience. Solid Works exposure and experience required. Proficient user of ERP system, Infor XA/MAPICS experience desired but not required. Specific product/packaging handling equipment knowledge desired. Lean manufacturing and/or operational excellence experience desired. ADA REQUIREMENTS: Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about regularly. Typically sits, grasps items, and performs keyboarding for operation of a computer. Lift, move, or otherwise transfer items up to 50 lbs. frequently, or more occasionally. Exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards. Noise level in the environment is usually moderate. The approximate pay range for this position is $70-$90.
