JOB OVERVIEW
- External The purpose of this job is to assure the quality of raw materials, intermediates, and finished product streams for the EPN, BASF plants located in Gordon and McIntyre, GA.
- The role primarily focuses on the accurate and efficient testing of in process materials, storage tank samples, and shipment samples from the plant.
- Additional job responsibility includes responsible care, calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment and associated documentation of same.
- The purpose also includes communicating effectively with plant, R&D and other QC/QA personnel the results of testing.
- The incumbents are expected to be active participants in quality improvement activities.
- The job has responsibility for managing sample workflow and testing additional materials as required by QA or business technical management.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate competence performing basic kaolin analysis such as: GEB, 325 MESH, particle size, rheology, surface area, pH elemental analysis by atomic absorption, x-ray diffraction specific resistance, lab bleach ladders, lab spray drying and dispersion demand.
- Adhere to published instrument calibration schedule.
- Bring to co-worker and supervisors’ attention instruments or equipment demonstrating undesirable performance trends.
- Manage lab workflow to process all sample in an efficient time frame with on-going evaluation of opportunities to improve lab efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with lab colleagues, plant personnel and others as appropriate the results of testing completed in the quality lab. Demonstrate competent use of existing electronic tools to ensure critical results are communicated to stakeholders in a timely fashion.
- Safely work following BASF’s safety and environmental policies.
- Develop and execute individual projects to improve plant and/or laboratory safety. Demonstrate collaboration with the lab team in effort to improve general lab organization and safety.
- Be an engaged participant in quality meetings to improve process, products and/or systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Experience with Word, Excel, and Power Point
2. A general understanding of basic chemistry as it relates to safe use of lab chemicals is required.
3. Good communication skills and the ability to be a team player and work with various groups within the manufacturing organization.
4. Experience with using SAP Qx modules and systems are preferred.
5. Experience in a plant support laboratory at a mineral processing facility preferred
6. Candidate must be skilled in Quality Orientation/Attention to Detail, and Workflow Management.
