What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Faith Formation position at Basilica of St Josaphat?
Job Summary:
The Basilica of Saint Josaphat is both a parish and a nationally recognized cultural landmark. As a result, it is a unique faith community and destination that draws a diverse congregation from all parts of the Archdiocese.
Its Faith Formation needs are likewise diverse: The Basilica has a religious education program for children who attend Mass here, a large number of home schooling families, and many young adults. It is also one of the largest wedding destinations in the Archdiocese, affording an opportunity to provide faith formation to many young couples at this important point in their lives.
The Basilica also has a parish school (with its own, independent faith formation program) that serves the residents of its primarily Latino neighborhood.
The Director of Faith Formation will be at the heart of passing on the Catholic faith to this diverse group. Supporting the Rector & Pastor, the Director of Faith Formation will administer current formation programs and sacramental preparation while, at the same time, explore new ways of formation responsive to the needs of those who call the Basilica home.
The Director of Faith Formation be supportive of home schooling. The right candidate will be creative have the ability see ministerial opportunities and respond to them and have a track record of evangelization, direction, and developing community.
Requirements:
• Active Catholic with consistent prayer life, ability to think with the mind of the church, and participate in its sacramental life
• Proficient in visioning, applying appropriate methods, and basic program development
• Working knowledge in Microsoft Office products
• Working knowledge of website design
• Working knowledge of social media
• Working knowledge of written bulletin communication and design
• Valid Driver's License
• Ability and presence on weekends and weeknights as needed. Available when greatest amount of parishioners and visitors are on campus.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus
Education/Experience:
• Undergraduate Degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy preferred. Masters in similar field preferred.
• Experience in parish life and ministry strongly preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1 Youth Catechesis (K-8, Confirmation)
a. Administration of Youth Catechesis Program
b. Identify, train, form volunteer catechists
c. Investigate catechesis of the good shepherd for youth.
d. Investigate best programming at all levels
2 Adult Faith Formation
a. Regular catechetical/Catholic culture sessions during calendar year, including Lenten Soup and Sessions Program
3 RCIA/Adult Confirmation
a. Develop core of RCIA team of formators
b. Develop Yearly Schedule
4 Homeschool Family Engagement
a. Support Home School family initiatives such as the regular
Family Friendly Adoration, special Masses and potlucks, service
opportunities
b. Support Monthly Enrichment experience
c. Explore possibility of Basilica Homeschool
Consortium/partnerships with other consortiums
5 Baptismal Preparation
a. Administer and coordinate baptism sacramental preparation
b. Implement best current offerings
c. Work with Friars, Deacon, Wedding Coordinator and Liaison for
Hispanic Faith Formation to integrate young families into the
life the parish through interaction with the Basilica's other
young families
6 Matrimonial Preparation
a. Work with Friars, Deacon, Wedding Coordinator and Liaison
for Hispanic Faith Formation to develop sacramental
preparation schema responsive to the various experiences of
the sacrament celebrated at the Basilica
7 Marriage Enrichment
a. Work with Friars, Deacon, and Wedding Coordinator to
develop "after marriage" gatherings for the newly married to
keep those engaged in the life of the church through
interaction with the Basilica's young couples/families.
b. Explore opportunities for Marriage enrichment, such as
conferences, retreats, special Masses
8 Support to Liaison for Hispanic Faith Formation
a. Offer guidance and support to Liaison for Hispanic Faith
Formation with the monthly School Family Mass and
Quinceanera preparation
Skills and Qualifications:
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Strong presentation skills to both small and large groups
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Successful track record in visioning and developing popular programs
• Organizational and project management skills including attention to detail
• Proven ability to make sound decisions and troubleshoot to solve problems
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit integrity, honesty and a high degree of ethics
• Desire to be part of a team and work in a highly collaborative environment
• Experience or willingness to learn and implement basic website and social media content
• Additional experience in graphic design for parish bulletin and publicity materials is a plus
