What are the responsibilities and job description for the Employment & Litigation Paralegal position at Bass Pro Shops?
Location: Springfield, Missouri preferred, but open to hybrid or fully remote
Experience: 5 years of employment/litigation paralegal experience, with 2 years in-house preferred
Education: Bachelor’s degree and paralegal certification
This position offers you a chance to join a close, dynamic team and to have real responsibility supporting in-house Legal and Human Resources departments at a company that includes (1) the top outdoor retail brands in the world, (2) the world’s largest builder of fishing and recreational boats by volume, and (3) Big Cedar Lodge and other outdoor-themed resorts and world-famous golf courses.
You will work closely with the General Counsel and Litigation/Claims/Employment Counsel, advising on HR/Employment Law issues and managing employment and general litigation. In this influential capacity you will serve as the first point of contact for business and HR partners and will – together with the attorneys – help direct outside counsel and resolve disputes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serve as a trusted advisor on a wide array of complex litigation, employment, business, governance, insurance, and privacy matters.
- Assist with employment questions, advice, investigations, and claims (e.g., internal claims handling, EEOC and state-based claims, lawsuits), and with the development of multi-disciplinary procedures and best practices to streamline legal oversight of all claims, charges, lawsuits, and other matters.
- Act as a legal liaison to outside counsel, insurance providers, and other third parties for assessment, coordination, and management of litigation.
- Help (1) develop and implement critical internal policies and templates, (2) conduct sensitive investigations, and (3) respond to a variety of issues involving customer, employee, and third-party claims.
- Receive, record, investigate, and assess pleadings, complaints, demands, subpoenas, notices, and requests for information.
- Review document production requests, determining scope and identifying required resources, and confer with lead counsel on most efficient approach to comply with all parameters and deadlines given.
- Track company-wide compliance with document and data preservation obligations and manage document production efforts.
- Conduct legal research; assist with tracking and monitoring legislation and regulations that impact the company’s processes.
- Aid counsel in preparing for mediation, depositions, and trial.
- Assist with preparing separation agreements, settlement agreements, and other form documents.
- Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with key internal stakeholders.
- Perform other legal and operational tasks as required to execute on business priorities.
- Occasional travel may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree and paralegal certification
- 5 years of employment paralegal experience, with 2 years in-house preferred.
- Experience crafting solutions, with strong communication and collaborative partnership skills to ensure the effective execution of business solutions.
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment and to handle a large and diverse caseload.
