Responsibilities
The Nurse Manager, Acute Care will work Full Time, Days under general supervision of the, Director of Ambulatory Nursing and the Operational Managers, and with limited supervision by the Division Chiefs, the Medical Clinic and Endoscopy Nurse Manager has direct managerial responsibility for all non-provider clinical staff within the Divisions. The Nurse Manager oversees the day-to-day clinical operations for the Divisions and serves as critical member of the Management team with direct oversight of staffing, quality assurance, performance improvement, equipment ordering and regulatory compliance for the Divisions. The Nurse Manager will assure the appropriate application of nursing and technical processes for the Divisions. Additionally, the Nurse Manager acts as an expert resource in the field of Medicine and Endoscopy Nursing and participates in staffing as needed to maintain clinical skills. The Nurse Manager will work with multidisciplinary team members to plan, implement and facilitate systems and programs in the delivery of care.
- The Nurse manager is responsible for all non-provider clinical staff within the Divisions.
- Oversees the hiring of all non-provider clinical staff and assures that there is appropriate and timely orientation for those staff members as observed by Director.
- Develops and updates orientation schedule for non-provider clinical staff as observed by Director.
- Completes performance appraisals within 7-21 days of due date on all clinical non-provider staff as observed by Director.
- Takes appropriate disciplinary action for inappropriate behavior or failure to follow hospital policy for all employees being supervised as observed by Director.
- Assumes responsibility for the training, competency and continuing education requirements of all non-provider clinical staff and self and up to date documentation is in place as observed by Director.
- Ensure non-provider clinical staff is familiar with and follow regulatory requirements including infection control, CMS regulations and JCAHO as observed by mock surveys and minutes of staff meeting discussions as observed by Director.
- The Nurse Manager oversees the day-to-day clinical operations for all Departments.
- Responsible for scheduling assignments for all non-provider clinical staff. Reviews work schedules prepared by Team Leaders and assists in arranging coverage as necessary as observed by Director.
- Independently solves staffing problems, keeps Director and Operational Leaders informed of situations beyond his/her resources, as observed by Director.
- Assures all provider and non-provider staff involved in Divisions are complying with all internal and external credentialing and regulatory agency, codes and standards, as observed by Director.
- Alerts Director and Operational leaders of non-compliance situations beyond his/her control as observed by Director.
- As necessary, functions in a staff nurse capacity as needed to ensure quality patient care and safety, as observed by Director.
- The Nurse Manager serves as critical member of the Management team with direct oversight of staffing, quality assurance, performance improvement and equipment ordering and regulatory compliance.
- Sets an example in work performance and team building attributes, concern for patients and support of clinicians by maintaining a positive interpersonal attitude and demeanor, as observed by Director.
- Assists in resolving patient complaints as they relate to operations, forwarding to Director and Operational Leaders as necessary as observed by Director.
- Works directly with Director, Operational Leaders and Department Chiefs to implement Performance Improvement, Quality Assurance/Risk Management activities and practices, as observed by Director.
- Completes project work and ad hoc assignments within 1-2 days of requested time frame, communicating to Director if time frame revision is needed, as requested and observed by Director.
- Attends all divisional staff and provider meetings with the exception of scheduled time off, presenting agenda items, as requested by Director.
- Conducts regular staff meeting for non-provider clinical staff as evidenced by staff meeting minutes.
- Reviews and updates Departmental Policy and Procedure manuals, as observed by Director.
- The Nurse Manager acts as an expert resource in the field of Medicine and Endoscopy and arranging for in-services as appropriate.
- Instructs clinical staff on specifics of the Medical Clinic and Endoscopy such that new staff are able to achieve self-sufficiency within 3-6 months as observed by Director.
- Functions as an information resource for clinical staff as observed by peers and Director .
- Works with physicians Director and Operational Leaders to arrange in-services as needed on related topics, as measured by staff in-service logs.
- Participates in organizational initiatives such as committees, JCAHO preparation, etc. as requested and as documented by Director.
- The Nurse Manager works with multidisciplinary team members to plan, implement and facilitate systems and programs in the delivery of care.
- Assures that teaching relative to the delivery of safe and effective care are available to other nurses.
- The Nurse Manager assists Operational Leaders with financial accountability including oversight of equipment ordering and maintenance processes and department billing.
- Provides instruction to staff in correct billing methods. Provides daily oversight of equipment ordering process, ensuring that supplies are ordered in the most cost effective manner possible, alerting Operational Leaders of potential budget overages within 1-2 days of equipment order, as observed by Director.
- Regularly assesses the par level of supplies in use to assure supply availability.
- The Nurse Manager performs similar or related duties as requested or directed.
Qualifications
Bassett Healthcare Network follows the New York State and New York State Department of Health COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers. Education/Qualifications:
- RN license required.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, health care administration or a related field or
- Associates degree with an additional 2 years of healthcare leadership experience required in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree.
Experience:
- A minimum of two years of nursing experience is required.
- A minimal of one-year Endoscopy experience is required.
- A minimum of one-year leadership experience required.
Licensure/Certificates:
- NYS RN license and registration is required.
- BLS Certification is required within 6 months from date of hire
- ACLS Certification is required within 6 months from date of hire
Skills:
- Ability to assess patient status and take appropriate action is required.
- Demonstrates competency in required nursing skills relevant to area of Nursing.
- Ability to multi-task effectively in a rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to function in a leadership capacity.
- Ability to precept and mentor other staff members.
- Ability to accomplish management duties as assigned by the Director.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to push/pull more than 50 lbs. and lift objects more than 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Able to stand for prolonged periods
- Category I risk exposure as defined by OSHA.
