Scientist II - Vision Care R&D
Credentials / Required Skills:
MS/BS - Chemistry/Biochemistry/Medicinal/synthesis/polymer chemistry or equivilant work experience
Minimum of 3 yrs. Experience, medical device or FDA regulated industry preferred
Working knowledge in synthetic organic-polymer bench chemistry and analytical chemical testing including gas and liquid chromatography, gel permeation chromatography (SEC), UV/Vis, FTIR, rheometer, viscosity testing and others.
Experience working in a GLP laboratory / facility environment. Knowledge of general GLPs, as well as good documentation practices.
Job Responsibilities:
The employee will assist in the design, synthesis, development and analysis of new and novel materials and formulations of contact lens materials, lens packaging solutions, lens care products, and contact lens coatings. Contact lens material or coating development will require the employee to be able to support of mixing monomer batches for in-lab, engineering lab, and manufacturing line experiments or make the lens materials, fabricate the contact lenses, and analyze the materials for some basic properties or coordinate more detailed analyses. Solution development will require that the employee be able to make the solutions, as well as, analyze the solutions by pH, osmolality, conductivity, or measurements of the like.
Additionally, responsibilities will include accurate record keeping both electronically and in a laboratory notebook. The employee will also assist colleagues with routine departmental responsibilities (i.e. lab cleanliness, safety, ordering/restocking, etc.).
The employee’s responsibilities will support the current activities surrounding contact lens development packaging solutions, and coatings, while maintaining current project timelines.
