Perform a variety of routine maintenance duties to assist various maintenance personnel and, as assigned on individual jobs. Assist in preparing, bending, or installing conduit, junction boxes, stringing wire, plumbing, piping, machine repair, carpentry or concrete work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: – Other duties may be assigned:
Assist maintenance men in disassembly, assembly or cleaning of machines or equipment, provide assistance in lifting, moving or installing equipment, setting up ladders of scaffolding. Provide general help on a wide variety of maintenance duties.
Work under direction of specific instructions to perform routine maintenance duties, working alone or with others to clean and paint machines, equipment or facilities, assemble or disassemble machines or equipment, install belts, mount motors, brackets. Perform various bench and hand operations such as drilling, tapping, filing or grinding.
Shovel snow, dig ditches, clean roofs and gutters and perform various miscellaneous duties in all plant, office or outdoor areas.
Perform preventative maintenance duties to maintain equipment in proper operating condition.
Trainee must participate in Company sponsored training program as established and agreed to by the Union.
Give proper care to tools and equipment used. Observe good housekeeping practices and prescribed safety regulations. Detest and report unusual conditions to proper supervision.
Responsible for both quality and quantity of work: Participate in team activities and problem solving sessions as required. Communicate problems and/or solutions to appropriate person. Report any faulty equipment or unusual conditions to the maintenance supervisor. Must follow processes and procedures as written. As needed, document and/or chart data to aid in problem identification, quality feedback and production scheduling. Troubleshoot problems when necessary. Train, instruct and assist other operators in their duties as required to ensure a quality product and smooth flow.
Evaluate defective material and tooling, faulty operations, questionable conditions and potential work stoppages. Advise and recommend alternatives to appropriate person. (May require the use of computer and telecommunication device.) Ensure that work area and equipment are maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. Follow prescribed safety regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be skilled in the following disciplines: Mathematics, Measurement, Basic Mechanics, Lubrication, Principles of Electricity, Batteries and DC Circuits, Reading of Technical Diagrams and Basic Troubleshooting.
- Must pass Grade 7 Maintenance Test and participate in Maintenance training program in order to advance to Grade 5 General Maintenance Person.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or (GED) General Education Degree (applies to anyone hired after 1997).
