Research Field Worker

Bayer Agronomy Center: Crop Environmental Physiology Summer Field Research Positions Main job duties include: Early season – May and June - Assist with planting our field trials - Assist the group in staking and identifying discard plots in our trials - Utilize rugged handheld computing devices for in-season data collection at our field location for corn - Collect soil and/or plant samples and installation of soil probes and weather monitoring devices - Assist in weeding, preparing fields, preparing seed, tissue sampling, & rouging. Mid-season – June, July, and early August - Monitoring previous 2021 yield trials for volunteer corn and soybean plants - Collect plant tissue samples and ship to labs for analysis - General plot maintenance and removing weeds in trials - Assist in collecting a variety of agronomic metrics throughout the growing season Late season – August & September - Collect plant tissue samples for lab analysis - Assist in collecting metrics, including plant & ear height data in corn research trials - Calibrating & testing specialized research equipment to assist with yield data collection - Hand Harvesting trials for analysis • Support Bayer's Safety program by adhering to all safety policies and attend regular safety meetings. • Take daily direction from supervisors and managers and carrying out all duties as assigned. • Adhere to all established Standard Operating Procedures when carrying out assigned tasks. • Ensuring compliance of regulated trails by assisting with volunteer plant removal. • This position may require driving to and from on & off-site research fields with use of a company pool vehicle or UTV. Mileage will not exceed 5,000 miles in the year. Passengers (no more than 6) may be transported by employee in peak seasons to assist in workload. Additional contingencies required for all drivers. ***Work clothing requirement of employee-provided long pants and long-sleeved shirts while working in any field. This is not considered PPE, but work clothing, which the employee will need to provide and wear to work.*** • Must wear required & Bayer-provided PPE at all times. • Closed toe shoes required (or steel toes if designated by safety protocols). Hours: • Monday-Friday: 8 AM – 4:30 PM with half hour lunch and two 15 minute breaks • Potential opportunity of overtime in peak seasons with possible weekend work. • Work is contingent on weather conditions and can result in days off when weather/growing conditions are not ideal or unsafe.
