Custodian

SIGN ON BONUS $750 = $300 at hire & $450 at 90 days of employment

9am - 5pm - M-F (paid lunch!)

Hourly Pay Range: $17 - $18

Summary

The Custodian will report to the Health and Safety Manager. The Custodian performs assigned custodial tasks as it relates to that job location. This includes general cleaning, buffing, scrubbing, and ability to perform basic tasks of vacuum, sweeping, mopping and use of equipment such as scrubbers, extractors, and buffers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Uses floor machines for buffing, stripping, waxing, vacuuming and carpet cleaning safely, according to proper usage
• Performs janitorial/custodial tasks as directed by the Health & Safety Manager. These tasks often include the following:
  • Scrub warehouse floors
  • Vacuum corners and ceiling of warehouse from high lift
  • Sidewalk shoveling in winter
  • Hand cleaning and sweeping under racks
  • General sweeping, cleaning and hosing down in Warehouse
  • Refill all restroom dispensers as needed
  • Wipe/clean all table tops and chairs
  • Wipe/clean vending machines and appliances
  • Clean sink and damp mop tile floors
• Follows oral and written instructions
• Works effectively individually and with a team
• Performs all tasks within proper safety guidelines, company guidelines, and as directed by management
• Follows all company policies and procedures regarding safety, proper attire, and working conditions

Knowledge & Skills

• Able to read and communicate in English
• Lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials up to 50 pounds
• Repetitive motion involved daily may include, but not limited to, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing, and squatting
• Ability to operate small power tools
• Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching into areas not fully air conditioned
• Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time to include climbing/descending stairwells and ladders
• Can work independently

Required Skills:

• Basic knowledge of custodial duties and janitorial responsibilities
• Knowledge of cleaning equipment including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and applying finishes on different flooring materials
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques and processes. Knowledge of the qualities and uses of various cleaning, sanitizing, stripping, and waxing compounds
• High Lift experience
• Able to demonstrate importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to appropriate Supervisor
• Ability to follow directions and work within guidelines
• Must be able to read, understand and follow units of measure on product labels.
• Demonstrated ability of maintaining janitorial equipment in a clean, safe and operable condition

Education and/or Experience

• Prefer a high school diploma or equivalent
• 1–2 years of experience in custodial, janitorial, or cleaning services.

During the performance of his/her work duties regularly lift up to 50 pounds and will frequently lift up to 25 pounds.

The employee works in a warehouse environment and is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, work in high places, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is loud.
