The VP of Operations is responsible for creating and directing an integrated team to achieve the operational key business objectives of the respective BU, to provide superior products and services to BD customers worldwide, work collaboratively with all other BD and BDX counterparts, achieve functional excellence in Operations, and ensure all BD operations are conducted in compliance with all legal, regulatory and BD requirements. This leader will lead the FY2030 MDS Operations strategy development and support the execution (end to end).
Main Responsibilities
- Near Term Focus areas:
- Leads FY23 budgeting process – Plants and OCOS, capital, inventory, etc.
- SC Strategy and Backorder improvement
- Development of FY22-25 network architecture strategy
- The VP of Operations is a member of the WW MDS Operations team.
- Reporting to the Senior Vice President of ISSC, he/she will work closely with peers in Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory, R&D, Finance, HR, Med Affairs, Marketing and commercial organizations.
- He/ she is also expected to effectively work with the regional organizations in executing on this strategy.
- This leader is also accountable to establish, facilitate, and develop strategies for the MDS business to ensure alignment with business and corporate strategies.
- He/She will lead the ASR process for the MDS Operations Leadership team.
- He/She will lead the architectural strategy, working with Business, Supply Chain, Regulatory, Legal, and HR teams.
- The leader is responsible to understand the digital impacts and implications in manufacturing, emerging trends and innovations in manufacturing operations, what are the best practices for achieving cost optimization in manufacturing and to best align and integrate manufacturing capability with the cross-functional supply chain.
Duties / Accountabilities:
- Interface with business, corporate, and functional teams to ensure consistency and alignment of strategies.
- Manage strategy meetings to review and ensure progress towards strategic objectives.
- Influence decisions that affect strategic positioning of businesses and functions.
- Define how BD core capabilities create and deliver value.
- Define strategic priorities and ensure that capabilities are in place or are being developed to deliver on strategic choices.
- Establish and maintain processes for creating, reviewing, and communicating our strategy.
- Design and implement management systems to measure progress towards attainment of strategic goals.
- Propose and guide the selection of improvement programs that build unique and difficult-to-copy skills and capabilities, aligned with defined strategies.
- Coordinate manufacturing network architecture strategy development across the Medical Segment.
- Develops and maintains an organizational design that is aligned with the achievement of overall business objectives and is responsive to customer needs. Creates an environment that is oriented to exceeding customer expectations with particular emphasis on quality and service.
- Demonstrates effective business leadership as part of the BD Leadership team and participates as a BD Worldwide Team member.
- Committed to the implementation and use of BD tools and processes including Lean, Category Management, Six Sigma, Validation, and SAP.
- Collaborates with other functions to ensure that multi-functional plans and goals are developed. Measures and communicates progress to ensure that the desired results are achieved.
- Carries out Human Resource management responsibilities such as hiring, job assignments, terminations, transfers, promotion, salary actions, and performance reviews in a high quality, timely manner.
- Attract and retain diverse talent and play an integral role in the professional development of direct reports. Develop a succession plan for key managers/leaders and ensure a growing bench is available and well prepared to assume responsibility for senior level manufacturing and operations roles around the world.
- Exercises responsibility for associate learning and development, motivation, recognition and reward. Builds strong diverse teams that demonstrate BD Values and strive for continuous improvement. Has a track record of developing talent and preparing them for broader roles in the company.
- Implements Affirmative Action Plan as it applies to Operations function. Monitors performance and relationships among associates supervised to prevent discriminatory acts or comments and encourages diversity.
- Demonstrates an understanding of key US and foreign regulations affecting the business and assures compliance with those regulations. May recommend changes to practices and procedures to ensure compliance with the regulations. Demonstrates through actions and communicates the critical importance of regulatory compliance to Operations associates.
- Works closely with the regions to ensure product supply requirements are met and growth strategies are understood
- Establishes and monitors safety goals and objectives. Supports Corporate and Business Safety policies and procedures through communication with associates. Ensures implementation of a robust Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) program.
