Job Summary: Engages in practical and business-oriented legal activities by providing legal advice and counsel on a range of employment law issues. Reports to the General Counsel and will work closely with Human Resource Business Partners. Job Description: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Provide support, practical, and business-oriented legal advice and counsel on a range of employment issues including: performance management, employee relations, terminations, leaves of absence and accommodations, compensation, internal investigations, benefits, privacy, and general policy adherence across the Blue Diamond enterprise. • Consult, coordinate, supervise, or manage outside counsel as needed. Collaborate effectively with outside counsel to manage employment related litigation and agency claims (including Workers Compensation) and makes recommendations to Human Resources on appropriate action. • Assist with developing and continuously improving best-in-class employment law practices, procedures and policies. • Partner with the Human Resources team to generate and implement trainings on employment law topics. • Respond to employment-related inquiries (e.g., EEOC, DOL, OSHA, DFEH, DLSE and other federal/state related agencies). Conduct internal audits, classification reviews, and support other compliance efforts to ensure compliance with the FLSA, the California Labor Code, and state laws around the country. • Develop and conduct training programs for supervisors, managers, and team members. • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with business and other partners across the enterprise/business. • Strong oral and written communication skills to explain complex concepts for a variety of audiences. • Develop process, guidelines, tools and training content to improve employment related compliance. • Anticipate and proactively mitigate legal risks related to employment policies and decisions. • Monitors legal and policy developments relevant to employment law and translates those developments into practical steps for the enterprise to action. • This job description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS • Juris Doctor(ate) degree from an ABA Accredited law school. • 5 years of experience in Employment Law (with an emphasis in the State of California. • Admitted to the California State Bar. • A mixture of relevant experience in a top-tier law firm and a corporate legal department. • Excellent communication skills with the ability to foster relationships, influence and collaborate with internal stakeholders. • Proactive, strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks. • Career track of progressive, documented accomplishments with a broad diversity of experiences. • Some travel may be required. PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES • Strong Law School academic record. • Excellent planning and organization skills, including the ability to manage a number of projects concurrently and strong attention to detail. • Experience implementing compliance programs • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; positive and driven attitude. • Able to work well under pressure and maintain all deadlines, and be able to adapt to multiple, conflicting and/or shifting deadlines. • A proactive approach and the ability to work "hands-on," as required. • Able to work both independently and collaboratively.
