What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer for Success - Special Education Teaching Assistant position at Beacon College?
Summer for Success aims to give college-bound students who learn differently the skills, confidence and preparation to successfully transition from high school. Through academic and residential programming, students work towards increasing self-awareness, problem-solving, and social pragmatic skills to proactively determine the optimal college environment.
The Special Education Teaching Assistant will work closely with course instructors to deliver educational programming in the academic courses as well as independent living seminars. More so, these positions will work closely with students to evaluate their skills in and out of the classroom to help inform intervention planning and program evaluations. Special Education Teaching Assistants reports directly to the Course Instructors, and indirectly to the Academic Coordinators, Director of Summer Programming as well as other Summer for Success administrators.
Employment Term: 7/3/2023 - 7/31/2023
Salary Information:
- $750 (distributed over 3 pay-periods)
- On-campus meals
- Housing for the duration of the summer program
- Free off-campus Excursions/Trips with program students (Disney Properties, Universal Studios, etc.)
- Employment Terms: July 3 – July 31, 2023
Essential Job Functions:
- Residing in on-campus housing and assisting in the implementation of a residence life program.
- Assist in three different courses and one independent living skill seminar course.
- Providing supervision in the life space to ensure a safe learning and living environment.
- Design and facilitate a student club or organization based on student interest serving as the club or organization ‘advisor’
- Attend all assigned meetings, including pre-program training (July 3, July 5 - 7, 2023)
- Participate in Summer for Success Training Program consisting of daily Learning Specialist Meetings, on-going Professional Development and personal-professional desired learning opportunities that arise
- Support the facilitation of opening day (July 9)
- Attend the final ceremonial dinner (July 27)
- Communicate any student-related issues to the Beacon College Residence Life Staff or Beacon College Course Instructors
