Reports to the Practice Manager. Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, coordinates the alcohol and drug screen process in compliance with federal, state, local requirements and DOT regulations when applicable. Ensures that drug and alcohol screening results are communicated to clients/patients accurately and in a timely manner. Acts as a point person within the department when the Practice Manager is unavailable. Performs training and lead responsibilities in the department.

Coordinates the alcohol and drug screening process in accordance with federal, state and local requirements by:

  • Managing DOT and non-DOT random pool generation of drug screen and alcohol programs and MIS reporting.
  • Processing drug screens and alcohol tests for all locations (currently includes 6 COM locations, 3 MedPoints, 3 local ERs, and any offsite locations our clients have used) - data entry, printing letters, sending letters and CCFs to employers, scanning and attaching paperwork in Systoc.
  • Assisting MRO as necessary with review of drug screen and alcohol results and CCF's.
  • Reporting results in a timely manner and following procedures established by clients for all locations (currently includes 6 COM locations, 3 MedPoints, 3 local ERs, and any offsite locations our clients have used).
  • Primary contact for all drug screen and alcohol related questions and concerns for clients, patients, and staff; utilizing resources to gather information needed to respond efficiently and accurately to questions when needed.
  • Performing drug screens and alcohol tests when needed within the clinic; performing on-site drug screens and alcohol tests when on-site staff is unavailable.
  • Providing efficient and professional customer service via telephone, providing as much assistance to callers as possible.
  • Ensuring that client's requests are met regarding authorizations and requested procedures; updating records in computer system as needed.
  • Communicating with lab and other MRO offices to ensure quality, efficient reporting.
  • Following DOT regulations regarding reporting, collection procedures, random testing, CCF review, and any other drug and alcohol related rules, to keep COM in compliance and assist clients with compliance.
  • Serving and protecting the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies, procedures and federal, state and local requirements.

Assists the Practice Manager with the direction of the drug screen department team by:

  • Assisting with the dispersal of communication from other departments within the drug screen department.
  • Helping to establish and manage processes within the drug screen department to ensure efficiency of work flow.
  • Training of new team members in the drug screen department
  • Acting as a point person within the department when Practice Manager is unavailable.
  • Assisting with annual appraisals of department staff through multi-rater appraisals and general input throughout the year on the performance of other team members in the drug screen department.

Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:

  • Enhancing professional growth and development through exploring opportunities to add t o job accomplishments.
  • Completing other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have drug and alcohol testing and MRO-A certifications. DATIA DOT drug screen Certified Professional Collector Trainer certification and Breath alcohol train-the-trainer certification recommended.
