Bean's Cafe, Inc., in service since 1979, exists to fight hunger for all ages, one meal at a time while providing a pathway to self-sufficiency with dignity and respect. 

The Children's Lunchbox, a program of Bean's Cafe has been in operation since 2006 and is focused on feeding hungry and food-insecure children and families. We do this through various methods, including our pantry pack, weekend food, and summer food programs.

Bean's Cafe Benefits and Perks: 

  • Compensation: $30 an hour / 62,400 per annum

  • Fulltime on-site working hours at Administration building, weekdays from 8am - 5pm

Job Summary: 

Reports directly to of the Finance Manager. The Senior Accountant will work directly with the finance assistant to ensure that all accounts payable transactions, all accounts receivable and deposit information and all payroll transactions are entered into the accounting database timely and accurately.  Additionally, the Senior Accountant will assist the Finance Manager in ensuring that balance sheet accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis and that any adjustment to the accounting system are entered timely. 

 

Supports Vision: The Senior Accountant helps to ensure that the financial structure meets mission needs, goals, and inspirations, while ensuring a sustainable financial function and organizational infrastructure is in place to support and contribute to Bean’s organizational success.   

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the Bean’s Cafe, Inc. mission, philosophy, history and tradition(s) and the underlying values upon which Bean’s Cafe, Inc. is founded upon to the staff, clients and the community served. 

  • Provide support to the finance assistant as well as training in QuickBooks. 

  • Perform a variety of advanced financial analyses to determine present and forecasted financial health of the company. 

  • Assist the Finance Manager in the preparation and publication of departmental and organizational financial documents. 

  • Assist the Finance Manager in the preparation of the annual budget. 

  • Assist the Finance Manager in the preparation of audit documentation for the annual audit. 

  • Build relationships with banks, donors, vendors, outside consultants and others as needed to keep close to Bean's Cafe, Inc. major expenditures and sources of revenue. 

  • Utilize technology to optimize all reporting and analytical functions. 

  • Ensuring that Bean’s Cafe, Inc. meets critical regulatory and legal compliance benchmarks. 

  • Keep up with new trends in the financial industry and sharing this information with the senior leadership team. 

  • Assist the Finance Manager to manage organizational spending, monitor budget compliance, and mitigate financial risks; comparing them with the organization’s objectives and taking appropriate measures to correct and redirect. 

  • Ensures the organization’s compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and standards within the state of Alaska, the federal government and funding specific regulations. 

  • Performs other related duties to benefit the mission of the organization. 

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Background and Experience: 

  • Ability to be cross-trained and willingness to perform duties outside scope of position.  

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred. 

  • Experience working as a staff accountant and/or in similar position for three or more years is required. 

  • Office Administration and Payroll experience. 

  • Undergo a background check. 

  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping procedures. 

  • Familiarity with finance regulations. 

  • Database experience and proficiency required. 

Physical Requirements:  

  • Must be able to climb stairs. 

  • Must be able to work with background distractions. 

  • Must have normal range of hearing and vision with or without correction. 

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds from the ground up. 

  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to use technology, office equipment and supplies, etc.
