POSITION SUMMARY: The Environmental Health Compliance Officer will be responsible, under direction of the Housing Director; for ensuring that environmental health issues are addressed and remediation is reported to the Housing Director. Must be able to maintain a professional and courteous manner with residents, tenants, visitors, vendors, and fellow employees. The Environmental Health Compliance Officer will serve as the liaison between the Housing, Environmental and Social Services Departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Must practice safety precautions and be safety conscious at all times.
  • Periodically reviews and updates policy standards to ensure containing consistency and relevance in providing guidance for residents and tenants.
  • Collaborates with other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels forinvestigation and resolution. Consults with the Housing Director as needed to resolve difficult compliance issues.
  • Monitors and as necessary, coordinates compliance activities of other departments to remain abreast ofthe status of all compliance activities and to identify trends.
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
  • Monitor common areas for cleanliness and maintain to standards set by Housing Policy and environmental regulations.
  • Reports unusual or extraordinary circumstances and/or environmental potential violations regarding the unit or residents to the proper authorities and/or Housing Director.
  • Provides reports on a regular basis, and as directed or requested, to keep the Housing Director informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts.
  • Ensures proper reporting of violations or potential violations to appropriate authorities.
  • Institutes and maintains an effective compliance communication program for the organization,heightened awareness and understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policiesand procedures through workshops and/or meetings.
  • Works directly with Housing Director and Assistant Housing Director; to develop effective compliance training program; including appropriate introductory training for new residents; tenants as well as ongoing training for residents; tenants.
  • Responsible for organizing, planning, and facilitating Community Clean Ups, Community Education and Outreach Events.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

AUTHORITY/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have any supervisory.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must have High School diploma or GED
  • Must have a minimum of one year working with Tribal Government, Tribal Communities, and/or Tribal Organizations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Shall possess a valid driver's license and be insurable by agencies insurance.
  • Must provide or obtain CPR & First Aide certification within three (3) months of hire.
  • Must attend and obtain all required Healthy Homes Training at University of Washington up on hire as soon as possible.

COMPUTER OPERATIONS

  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (copier, fax, etc.).
  • Must be able to work with American Indian people and be sensitive to their culture.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts of Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
  • Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays & special events as needed.
  • Must uphold a high level of confidentiality.
