Description

The Regulatory Specialist interprets rules and regulations to formulate the appropriate customer response. This position is responsible for the initial review of customer specifications and assists with the development of standard operating procedures. The Beck Flavors Regulatory Specialist will audit all new products for compliance and prepares appropriate documentation. This person will ensure the highest level of commitment to Safe Quality Food (SQF) to provide assurance that all products have been produced, prepared, and handled according to the highest possible standards.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Interprets proposed rules and regulations to formulate the appropriate customer response.
  • Keeps up to date on changes in regulations, including attending trade conferences and seminars.
  • Completion of customer documents specific to Regulatory compliance.
  • Resolves customer complaints related to Regulatory issues.
  • Identifies sales restrictions by market and/or region as dictated by Regulatory statutes.
  • Provides product information to internal and external customers with respect to domestic and foreign regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews customer's specifications and determines company's ability to comply. 
  • Reviews and makes necessary revisions to technical data sheets, safety data sheets, and other standard regulatory documents, as needed before submission to internal and external customers.
  • Contributes to the maintenance and continuous improvement of the HACCP, SQF, and GMP policies 
  • Participates in audits of quality systems (i.e. Sanitation, GMP/Safety, Recall/Traceability, HACCP) for compliance and effectiveness. Reports all deviations and weaknesses to the Quality Systems Manager & Coordinator, Business Unit Manager and Supervisors. Makes suggestions for corrective and preventative actions and tracks progress of corrective actions. 
  • Continually seeks improved methods and procedures to better serve customers, internal and external, and facilitates their implementation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Able to work in a structured environment, following set rules and guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, and organizational and planning abilities needed to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve system related issues.
  • Working knowledge of how to determine global chemical inventory (TSCA, etc.) for products.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software as needed to complete reports, logs, and documents.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Food Science, or Microbiology is preferred. 
  • 2-3 years’ experience in Regulatory function.
  • Knowledge of food safety systems (HACCP, GFSI, SQF) preferred. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
