Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare is a full-service community mental health center, providing behavioral healthcare to the citizens of Pierce County for 50 years. We are conveniently located at 9330 59th Ave SW in Lakewood, WA. Greater Lakes serves over 10,000 individuals each year with a team of over 300 staff. Our modern professional clinic provides a comfortable setting for counseling and medication services.
Position Summary & Mission
The Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) serves as the primary contact with clients, is responsible for screenings, assessments, development of treatment plans and providing individual, group and family counseling. Provides program information and facilitates referrals to outside resources to facilitate recovery and ensure client compliance with all legal requirements. The SUDP promotes the Mission of GLMH with a style that reflects the culture, the values and the mission of the organization.
Responsibilities
1. Completes accurate evaluations, diagnoses, treatment plans, progress notes, transfer and discharge summaries, continuing care and referral services. Performs on-going clinically appropriate assessments of consumers.
2. Provides direct service to outpatient SUD and intensive outpatient SUD services.
3. Assures that all clinical and administrative documentation, written and online, is completed in a thorough, accurate, timely and clinically appropriate manner.

The SUDP works semi-independently managing a caseload of clients in a highly competent and professional manner. The nature of the work in this position is highly diverse, of moderate complexity, and the potential impact of errors in this position is significant.
Communication / Customer Contacts
Position requires the need for frequent internal and external communication with a high degree of complexity involved. There is a strong need to work collaboratively with other agency staff to assure smooth implementation of agency operations across all programs, and with staff of other community agencies to assure continuity and collaboration across the mental health system.
Knowledge and Skills Needed
Qualifications
A Substance Use Disorder Professional license issued by the Washington State Department of Health is required. Associate Degree in Chemical Dependency/Substance Use Disorder or Behavioral Sciences is also required. Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Sciences with 2 years of experience as a SUDP is preferred. Other combinations of education and experience that provide the required familiarity and skills may be considered
Job Conditions
Work is provided at the agency and other locations around Pierce County. Must have a reliable vehicle and possess a good driving record. Must be able to speak and hear at normal conversational levels. The job requires the ability to move about all facilities freely, which may include going up and down stairs.

- In depth understanding of SUD needs, treatment options and services for adults and an ability to operationalize those treatment options within the managed care environment of the Pierce County MCO/ASO.
- Familiarity with a broad range of SUD assessment and treatment methods for a wide range of client types/problems, including individual, group and family therapy.
- Direct clinical experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of SUD needs.
- Knowledge of and experience with a wide variety of social systems and the general public.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise way, often on complex issues.
- Demonstrated problem-analysis and decision-making abilities.
- Thorough knowledge of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria.
