General Description:
The Director, Applied Innovation Pathology will report directly to the Executive Director, Applied Innovation Strategy and is a member of the Applied Innovation Team, a highly innovative and entrepreneurial team driving solutions to clinical trial inefficiencies, rising costs of drug development, lack of technological advances in healthcare/pharma tech, and fragmented data silos. The incumbent will work with cross functional experts to develop, deploy and commercialize innovative technologies to advance pipeline development and improve patient access. Through a robust understanding of rapidly evolving global health technology landscape, including existing regulations and competitor technologies, the incumbent will drive decisions which maximize return on investment and optimize patient outcomes.
Essential Functions of the job:
- Contribute to development of technology with the aim of eradicating cancer and improving the quality of life of patients afflicted with cancer across the globe.
- Derive and execute innovative strategies for the adaptation of novel technologies in pathology and global oncology care and research centers that will provide a clear competitive advantage to the company.
- Leverage expert clinical knowledge to establish data models for the efficient curation of pathology and oncology data.
- Utilizing deep understanding and experience with cutting-edge technology innovations, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, and digital pathology, provide strategic guidance and technical expertise towards technology development and implementation goals of Applied Innovation group and BeiGene.
- Provide strategic guidance and clinical expertise to Applied Innovation group and Oncology R&D on Onco-Pathology domain, particularly on novel biomarker development, quality/quantification assessment tools and models, and AI/ML applications.
- Attend all pertinent scientific and technology conferences where novel oncology research, pathology, technologies and regulatory guidance are discussed. These will include but not be limited to: ASCO, ASH, DIA, HIMSS, RAPS, FOCR. The incumbent will be accountable for summarizing the key issues emerging from these conferences and developing strategies to address ways to provide options and solutions to these issues.
Education Required: Deep understanding of pathology, particularly its role in the oncology research and development landscape. MD, MD PhD or PhD in life sciences, pathology or statistical disciplines required. Completion and board certification in Anatomical / Clinical Pathology, with strong Onco-Pathology background strongly preferred.
Qualifications:
- Significant experience and expert knowledge of pathology, particularly onco-pathology and its relevant and evolving technology landscape
- Significant experience developing and implementing artificial intelligence and machine learning tools for healthcare applications.
- Expertise in the opportunities and challenges of adoption healthcare technology marketplace in pathology/oncology/clinical trials across the industry
- Experience in evaluating a broad range of technology with the understanding of the successes and failures of existing platforms that have been developed
- Understanding of the fundamentals of clinical trial design and principles associated with registration of a new biologic/pharma product
- Understanding of the regulatory processes associated with the development of technology and data-platforms in oncology R&D
- Strong track record of analysis and fact-based decision-making
- Strong scientific acumen and complex problem-solving skills
