About the role
In this role, the individual provides leadership and supervision to the hourly work force on the half product and bead wire production lines.
The person in this role must be capable of analyzing, controlling, steering, and problem solving of the processes to ensure that safety, quality and production requirements are met in accordance with specifications, in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
This role reports to the Production Manager. This role is located at the Rome, GA plant.
Job Duties and Responsibilities :
- Participates in the selection of and provides leadership to subordinates ensuring the presence of an efficient, safe, quality oriented and productive work force.
- Oversees the half product / bead wire production process ensuring the most effective use of materials, equipment and personnel and adherence to specified safety, quality standards and customer requirements.
- Directs / participates in setup, adjustment and operation of machines, blocks, process baths, systems, etc utilized in the half product / bead wire product lines and processes to ensure they are operated to required levels of safety, quality, productivity, and output in accordance to specified requirements and standards.
- Capable of collecting samples, monitoring, analyzing, recording, reporting results, adjusting, correcting, building, and transferring of chemicals and chemical baths in all chemical pickling, patenting, plating, and other chemical processes to ensure adherence to product / quality specifications within Half product and Bead wire processes and capable of resolving problems and implementing recommend solutions to promote improvements that result in higher levels of safety, quality, machine efficiency, and productivity.
- Capable of problem solving using established procedure, investigation of customer return reels, and participation in work group and other problem solving meetings.
- Schedules, and modifies as necessary, personnel and machine utilization to meet production and customer demands.
- Conducts preventive maintenance, safety, (Best Practice) process, and quality audits to ensure efficient machine operation is conducted in a safe, clean, productive and quality oriented work environment.
- Maintains time and attendance system for all half product / beadwire hourly employees to ensure accurate recording of time.
- Adapts production schedule as required in response to availability of resources or changes in work force composition.
- Coordinates the maintenance of machinery and equipment to ensure safety, quality standards, productivity, and optimum utilization.
- Discusses with and recommends to immediate supervisor, any suggestions for process improvements that will enhance safety, quality, and productivity.
- Exercises leadership and promotes involvement of personnel through exercising motivational and communication skills that contribute to a safe, quality oriented, and productive work environment.
- Interacts with colleagues in other departments, union officials and customer representatives to develop and maintain cooperative and constructive work relationships.
- Oversees the Department Trainers and confers with the trainers on a continuous basis concerning training of new employees and ongoing training of senior employees in the proper safety, quality and operating procedures and evaluation of operator skills to ensure a competent workforce.
- Coordinates production trials with Process Engineering Department to ensure they are conducted according to plan, and assist with initial set-up and instruction needed to commission new equipment for production.
- Develops maintenance activity schedule in accordance of preventive maintenance and trouble shooting activity to ensure safe and efficient machine operations.
- Assist in the developing and maintaining of SOP’s and technical manuals to ensure procedures are properly documented within the department.
- Provides technical / practical advice and instructions / training regarding the operation of production machinery; new and existing procedures machines, employees, etc.
to enhance understanding of machine characteristics / capabilities to the hourly work force
Be available for plant start ups and shut downs; scheduled or non-scheduled.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; speak, hear and use hands to handle and or feel objects, tools or controls.
- The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and write and is occasionally required to stand, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and smell.
- The employee is occasionally required to lift and / or move up to and in excess of pounds.
- Specific visions requirement include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
About You
Essential skills & competencies
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Manufacturing / Production.
- Wire drawing experience is a plus.
- Required Education : High School Diploma or GED
