Belzer Law—a growing, boutique litigation and appellate law firm recognized for its excellent and sophisticated legal advocacy—is expanding and looking for a highly skill paralegal with experience in civil litigation and firm organization to join our team.
This is a position with almost limitless potential. You won’t be “just” a paralegal. You will be getting in at the ground floor of an up-and-coming firm and will be an integral part of cultivating the firm’s culture, processes, and policies alongside the founder and our team. Skills You Possess:
- Minimum four (4) years of complex civil litigation experience
- Ability to manage a high-volume and high-conflict litigation caseload and help move cases forward
- Extraordinary attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as excellent proofreading skills
- Exceptional calendar management
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
- Broad knowledge of e-filing systems and requirements, including CCES and PACER
- Extensive experience with trial preparation as well as comprehensive knowledge of Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and legal case management software
What You’ll Do:
- Field and screen calls from potential new clients to determine whether their legal issue falls within our areas of expertise
- Communicate promptly and professionally with clients and opposing counsel/staff via phone and email
- Timely coordinate attorney meetings with opposing counsel or clients
- Calendar all deadlines, and manage attorney and firm calendars
- Create “shells” of demand letters, pleadings, motions, and discovery responses—and then flex your skills by going above and beyond turn those shells into substantive drafts
- Delve into client documents and cases to gain a comprehensive understanding of the facts and legal issues so that you can strategize alongside the attorneys and help manage cases as an important member of the team
- Regularly and clearly communicate with attorneys to create the perfect legal team
- Think proactively about cases and constantly be one step ahead
- Assist the Founding Partner in managing the firm by creating expense reports, performing basic accounting tasks, and creating policies and procedures for future hires in anticipation of the firm’s foreseeable growth
- Manage the firm’s attorneys (but unlike most attorneys, this shouldn’t be like herding cats—we’re good attorneys, we promise)
