The Life Safety Inspector Role : Reporting to the Fire Inspections Life Safety Supervisor, the Life Safety Inspector plays a vital role in our team.
Collaborating closely with a small group, this position involves conducting on-site inspections of various Fire Alarm Systems for our diverse clientele.
This includes K-12 public school districts, colleges, universities, government entities, and businesses ranging from small enterprises to large corporations, many of which require rigorous background clearances.
The role also demands meticulous completion of local, state, and federally-mandated inspection documentation within specified deadlines.
While our clients are primarily located in Pennsylvania, occasional travel to our Reading, York, and State College offices, as well as overnight stays, will be necessary.
To ensure the success of the Life Safety Inspector I, Berkshire Systems Group, Inc. provides :

Who You Are : You are a motivated team player with a strong passion for Life Safety, eager to contribute to the growth of our Fire Inspections Life Safety Division at BSGI.
You strive to deliver world-class service to our customers through ongoing education and advancement within the Fire Alarm industry.
Your responsibilities include :
- Reading and interpreting blueprints to locate system devices within buildings
- Using manufacturers’ manuals to operate various panels
- Extracting fire alarm event data from different panels
- Conducting inspections and tests for fire alarms, occasionally covering security, sprinkler, and communication systems
- Utilizing inspection software to accurately document findings according to company and contractual standards in a timely manner
- Performing any necessary tasks to support the success of the Fire Inspections Life Safety Division
Where You'll Be Located : Ideally, you reside in Central, Eastern, or Southern Pennsylvania, within reasonable distance to our offices in Reading, York, or State College.
Daily commute to these offices is not required. Daily travel to customer sites across Pennsylvania, with occasional overnight stays, is a regular part of the role.
What You Bring :
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to effectively use a smartphone for communication, documentation, GPS navigation, and scheduling
- Strong customer service skills for on-site client interactions
- Capability to read and interpret engineering drawings and operational manuals
- Basic understanding of circuitry and experience using a multimeter
- Strong multitasking and prioritization abilities
- Detail-oriented approach to documentation and task completion
- Excellent organizational skills for managing tools, equipment, and records
- Preferred : 1 year of industry-related experience or equivalent education; cultural fit is valued, and training for excellence will be provided
- Basic mechanical aptitude, including experience with hand and power tools
- Training in general safety, electrostatic discharge awareness, and quality systems awareness
Physical Requirements :
- Physical Fitness : Ability to climb ladders and stairs, access elevated areas, and inspect system components installed at various heights
- Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Manual dexterity to handle materials
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds daily; heavier lifting with mechanical assistance or teamwork
- Mobility : Comfort moving safely within confined spaces, crawl spaces, attics, and other installation areas
- Vision : Visual acuity in at least one eye of 20 / 40 or better (uncorrected) or 20 / 70 with corrective lenses; ability to distinguish colors
