Purpose and Essential Duties
The BIM Technician I is responsible for familiarizing processes and practices relating to the production of quality, cost effective shop drawings and to the world of BIM/VDC. Being committed to your personal growth and development.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Works with Detailing Trainers to learn how to read and understand specifications and contract documents.
- Develops a working knowledge of the mechanical and plumbing systems we draw.
- Learns the basics of how to read and interpret code.
- Learns the fundamentals of shop drawing creation, file management, and technical communication.
- Strives for proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication, Navisworks Manage, Revit, Bluebeam and other detailing software.
- Learns to communicate effectively with internal project teams and outsource detailers on specific job assignments.
- Begins to understand detailing budgets and the financial impact detailers have on projects.
- Spends sometime in the field to learn what elements lead to successful projects.
- Participates in any/all training opportunities at your disposal.
- Adheres to the departmental code of ethics while exemplifying a level of professionalism that appropriately represents Bernhard.
- Assists in the production of models and shop drawings when directed.
- Participate in job site and/or fabrication facility visits to advance and improve trade knowledge.
This position is Full-Time, Non-Exempt, and reports to the BIM/VDC Manager.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Aptitude for technical means and methods.
- Analytical and structural mindset.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Versed in the industry and the Company’s competitors.
- Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- Basic software (Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication, Bluebeam) knowledge.
- Basic trade (mechanical and/or plumbing) knowledge.
Travel Requirements
- 5% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.
Physical/Work Environment Requirements
- Extended periods of time at a desk in front of a computer sitting or standing in an office environment.
- Quiet environment.
