PURPOSE: Lead the growth of Berry’s international business by managing global trade compliance activities for the US & Canada. Utilize technical expertise of trade laws and practices to ensure proper execution of import and export transactions, compliance with relevant trade laws, and adherence to internal policies and federal regulations.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee responses to internal and external requests for international trade support and develop solutions to improve timeliness, accuracy and compliance in the review of import and export data and documents.
- Manage relationships and service agreements with brokers and other third-party service providers related to trade compliance through the development of SOPs, periodic Requests for Proposal, and regular business reviews
- Develop, manage and improve processes for assigning U.S. and Canadian tariff classifications for imports, and U.S. Schedule B codes for exports
- Oversee the internal audit process for the review of US & Canadian import transactions and US export transactions. Develop reporting to highlight compliance concerns and work with the team to implement remediation plans.
- Supervise activities related to Free Trade Agreement claims including solicitation and qualification activities, issuance of certificates, and requests for information in support of claims
- Engage with businesses outside the US & Canada to provide technical guidance and assist with the design and implementation of trade compliance processes and best practices
- Work across departments to lead process improvement projects affecting international trade
- Lead department efforts to determine, record, audit and communicate data required to facilitate global transactions and comply with other regulatory and policy directives
- Identify and address areas of compliance risk related to the corporate global trade compliance policies
- Develop and ensure execution of targeted training plans that ensure the appropriate dissemination of international trade knowledge to address compliance risks
Qualifications:
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 7-9 years of professional work experience in international business, contracts, supply chain, or other relevant area
- Proven track record for effecting change in large organizations
- Exemplary communication skills and experience presenting at the executive level
- Experience leading continuous improvement projects across functional groups
- Strong data analytics skills and experience utilizing KPIs, scorecards, and other performance measures
- Fluency in ERP systems, Business Intelligence reporting, Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint and Sharepoint
- Expert knowledge of international shipping, tariff classifications, customs formalities and the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT)
- A four-year degree from an accredited college or university
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:
- Strong technical knowledge in the area of customs regulations, tariff classification, free trade agreements and supply chain security programs
- Experience presenting business cases and leading change
- People management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams
- Ability to draw and share insights from large sets of data within Microsoft Excel by utilizing formulas, pivot tables, and visualizations
- Able to design, implement, and manage process improvements that show added value, improved service and compliance
