PURPOSE: The Legal Team is seeking a Legal Counsel to support our business in the EMEIA region, to be located in Berry’s Center of Excellence and Innovation Hub in Barcelona (Sant Cugat del Vallès), Spain. The Legal Team currently supports the business with lawyers in Germany, England, Scotland, France, China and the U.S. The selected candidate will play a key role in providing support for Berry Sales, Procurement, IMS, Finance, Operations, HR, and other Berry teams in their ongoing contract, real estate, and other commercial matters.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- The successful candidate must have a law degree with qualification to practice law in a country of the European Union, preferably Spain, Germany, UK, Italy or France.
- A minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience within an international law firm (private practice) and/or corporate in-house setting with demonstrated excellence.
- Experience handling commercial contracts, including customer and supplier contracts and NDAs. Experience in real estate, data privacy, and other commercial matters is also desirable.
- Ability to develop excellent partnerships with business leaders and team members.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills; high energy; a desire to learn; and a commitment to the highest ethical standards.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve complex legal issues in compliant, but also creative, business friendly, and cost-effective ways with an appropriate sense of urgency.
- Fluent (Legal) English (spoken and written) is a must. Other language skills would be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Provide business focused legal support and partnership across all Berry divisions in the EMEIA region.
- Handle contract, lease, and NDA reviews and negotiations; provide general business counseling including on anti-trust and other regulatory topics; GDPR oversight; and commercial disputes.
- Collaborate with members of the Legal Team in the delivery of legal services to support Berry’s global business.
- Collaborate with members of the Legal Team to continue development of their best-in-class team which partners with the business in a timely and effective way to drive profitability, business growth, and success.
- Engage in continuous learning of the business through formal and self-directed activities.
- Collaborate with the Legal Team to identify, develop and implement forms and processes to improve the efficiency of handling internal legal matters.
- Partner and communicate with all levels of the business, including the executive staff. Identify and analyze risk and communicate the same and mitigation activities to the appropriate levels of the business
- Assist in the management of outside counsel who are handling legal matters to ensure overall quality and value of legal services.
