Beth-El Center (BEC) is growing and refining its organizational structure to support future initiatives as defined in the Center’s strategic plan. This position offers a unique opportunity for a Development Director interested in serving as a key member of BEC’s leadership team and supporting its growth and development. BEC has a staff of 25 (full, part-time and per diem) augmented by a corps of 100 volunteers.
The Center enjoys wide community visibility and support in the region as evidenced by its recent election as Nonprofit of the Year by the membership of the Greater Milford Chamber of Commerce.
The Beth-El Center is a 501c3 organization that provides support services and advocacy to those experiencing homelessness and hunger within the Greater Milford community. Through our 34-bed homeless shelter, permanent supportive housing, food service programs, diversion services and outreach and engagement efforts, we offer individuals, families and veterans long-term solutions to help them reclaim their lives.

fund development activities and increase public awareness of Beth-El Center and its mission to end homelessness and hunger in the Greater Milford community. The Development Director reports to the Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Development/Administrative
- Development, creation, and implementation of an annual Development plan and a schedule of fundraising activities.
- Coordinating annual fundraising drives, coordinating individual fundraising, direct mail and other appeals.
- Creation and growth of caseloads for key Major and Mid-Level donor relationships with revenue goals.
- Initiating and organizing business and corporate engagements.
- Managing fundraising and special events.
- Engaging in prospect research and outreach to increase new donors and donations.
- Soliciting gifts, sponsorships, other support for annual special initiatives.
- Supervising the Gifts Office operations, donor records, fundraising CRM (DonorPerfect), and gifts acknowledgements/receipts.
- Researching new fundraising strategies and special fundraising projects.
- Working with Beth-El Center’s Board Development Committee members to establish and reach development goals.
- Develop and present quarterly to Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team on development trends and department strategies necessary to yield best results.
- Manage a team of 1-2 staff, leading recognition, feedback, accountability, and department metrics.
- Lead coordination with Capital Campaign consultants to facilitate internal and external communication, and meet capital campaign goals.
Community Relations:
- Communicate with new and existing donors through media and social media on Beth-El Development efforts, and soliciting support and involvement of constituents.
- Coordinating with Marketing and Communications consultant on developing and implementing Beth-El’s social media strategies and website updates.
- Collaborating with Marketing and Communications consultant on press releases and other informational and promotional materials, as needed.
- Coordinating displays, preparing and revising brochures and other Beth-El collateral materials.
- Serving as agency spokesperson as appropriate in the absence of the Executive Director.
- Representing Beth-El Center at various meetings.
Other:
- Attending Board Meetings.
- Staffing the Board of Directors’ Development Committee meetings and supporting the Committee’s agreed-upon actions.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications; establishing professional and community networks.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 35lbs.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least five years’ fundraising experience Interpersonal skills, familiarity with fund development, donor software and social media, good verbal and written communication skills, comfortable working with diverse funding base and diverse groups.
- Experience with donor caseloads and donor relationships.
- Major Gifts training (CFRE) preferred.
- Experience with DonorPerfect preferred.
