Summary:
The ESY Coordinator work will begin during the month of May to include appropriate preparatory activities and coordination of services. The ESY Coordinator is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of the assigned subject(s) following IEP goals and objectives, District approved curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Primary responsibility shall include student safety and appropriate collaboration and attention to each student’s readiness to learn including needed guidance, discipline, and welfare.
Responsibilities:
- Staffing allocations for ESY teachers and support staff in accordance with student IEPs.
- Conducting staff orientation and training for the provision of special education programs to individual students is completed prior to the beginning of ESY services. The mandatory summer staff orientation date is Wednesday, June 1, 2022, 3:30-5:30 pm at Bethany Community School.
- Ensuring that all ESY staff members have access to each student’s IEP and any Behavior Intervention Plan, as appropriate.
- Coordination of communication between ESY staff and case managers to ensure necessary instructional materials and other supports are in place prior to ESY.
- Coordination of transportation requirements including any necessary support personnel in accordance with student IEPs.
- Coordination of any medical services necessary during ESY. This includes ensuring protocols for the distribution of medication and other safety measures are in place and followed.
- Oversight and supervision of instructional and behavioral programs during ESY activities to ensure all obligations to the IEPs and BIPs are met.
- Ongoing availability to ESY staff during ESY hours for the purpose of supporting the implementation of instructional and behavior plans as well as crisis response procedures.
- Required to comply with all federal, state, and District mandates and stays abreast of updates and changes.
- Performs other duties as assigned by administration.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must possess CT Certification in special education or related areas. An 092 certification is preferred.
- Experience with developmentally appropriate, instructional, and intervention strategies.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with faculty, support staff, parents, and students.
- Able to use technology to be efficient and productive.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
