Starting Wage DOE: $19.16 - 22.51
The incumbent in this position is responsible for durable medical equipment (DME) and oxygen deliveries to patient homes and other health care facilities. Also responsible for equipment maintenance and set up, transfilling and transport of liquid oxygen, preparation and operation of the liquid oxygen fill station, education of patients/clients on the safety aspects of equipment operation and maintenance. Responsible to evaluate the home environment and the patient/client’s ability to deal with the specific equipment used and educate/train them accordingly. Consults with and makes recommendations to physicians, nurses, and members of the health care team regarding patient/client related care and services as needed. Effectively implements prescribed DME equipment and applies equipment knowledge for any given scenario to meet patient/client needs. Responsible for maintaining assigned delivery vehicle and completing all required documentation.
Essential Job Functions
- Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.
- Transfills and transports liquid oxygen from downtown campus to Home Oxygen location. Prepares and operates liquid oxygen fill station to convert liquid oxygen to compressed gaseous oxygen.
- Prepares for daily delivery routes by conducting vehicle inspection, pulling appropriate supplies and equipment (e.g.,wheelchairs, hospital beds, bathroom aids, medical supplies, oxygen, etc), staging equipment for delivery based on the order of the route, and loading equipment on company-provided vehicle.
- Delivers medical equipment (including liquid and compressed gaseous oxygen) to patients' homes and other health care facilities within 100 miles of Billings, MT.
- Sets up and follows all appropriate patients/clients using DME to ensure appropriate and safe utilization of the equipment per provider prescription.
- Checks DME to ensure proper function and safety prior to use.
- Reviews basic equipment operation and provides instructions on the proper use and care of equipment to patients/clients.
- Recognizes and reports any unusual reactions to treatment or equipment and/or contraindications to treatment, equipment or inappropriate use of therapy or equipment.
- Maintains and records all patient interactions in patient chart, in department records, and in appropriate computer databases for all DME interventions.
- Accurately evaluates patient/client status relating to his/her DME needs and suggests appropriate interventions to the other members of the health care team.
- Implements necessary changes based on provider orders for DME.
- Removes and/or exchanges equipment from patients' homes and other health care facilities. Disassembles, loads, and returns equipment to warehouse.
- Assists with basic warehouse operations (ie: clean, disinfects, reassembles, maintains, and verifies proper operation of all DME and oxygen equipment) and keeps warehouse clean/organized.
- Maintains assigned company vehicle in clean and safe working condition: restocks with basic supplies and equipment to be prepared for the next delivery day.
- Completes all necessary DOT and FDA requirements, including but not limited to invoices, work orders, manifests and logs, patient care instructions, driver logs and route sheets, and vehicle inspection forms.
- Presents a professional appearance and attitude while representing Billings Clinic.
- Responds to emergency calls and new patient orders during regular business hours, and on -call as assigned.
- Develops and maintains working knowledge of current products and services offered by department and applicable governmental regulations.
- Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality of service. Participates in the service Quality Improvement program.
- Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all system/departmental requirements.
- Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance.
- Performs other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/service.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High School or GED
Experience
- 1 year of experience working with home care and DME, preferred
Certifications and Licenses
- Certified in Basic Life Support At hire
- Montana commercial class C with hazardous endorsement drivers license must be obtained within six (6) months of employment; position requires good driving record and the ability to be insured to operate Billings Clinic vehicles-required for Billings Home Oxygen only; Livingston Home Oxygen services do not require this within 6 months of hire
Other Minimum Qualifications
- Successful completion of Department of Transportation (DOT) physical required within six (6) months of employment
- Combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
