Position Overview:

This position is responsible for developing and validating new methods, troubleshoot instrument and/or method issues, critical review and interpretation of data, study conduct as a lead scientist or study director. The position requires operation of LC-MS instrument with no supervision and process and review LC-MS/MS data to support all sample analysis. Additional responsibilities may include but not limited to essential lab duties in wet lab and analytical lab such as sample and solution preparation and operation of basic lab equipment.

This position will ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies, standard documentation practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations.

 

On Site role: The duties of this position will require full-time on-site attendance.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operate the LCMS systems with no supervision. Processes and reviews analytical data from both scientific and regulatory perspective.
  • Conducts research and development for new method development with no supervision. Independently develops and validate new methods and procedures
  • Responsible for instrument and method setup for in-vitro and in-vivo sample analysis. Develop and validate or qualify analytical methods in support of various study types.
  • Conducts routine laboratory functions including diluting, labeling and dispensing of biological samples, reagent solution preparation, equipment repair, laboratory upkeep, maintains inventory of supplies, and various other responsibilities
  • Write, review and maintain Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure maintenance of laboratories and equipment. Troubleshoot problems with laboratory instruments.
  • Train employees at or below the specified level.
  • Proper documentation in appropriate logs, records and study notebooks per SOP and regulatory guidelines. 
  • Participates in administrative and scientific meetings as requested. Serves as Lead Scientist or Study Director, as needed.
  • Prepare or assist in preparation of client proposals and/or protocols and reports requiring specialized scientific knowledge as needed.
  • Interacts with both internal and external clients on QA audits and other study related issues.

 

ON-SITE REQUIREMENTS:

Position required to be on site at the Kansas City location 100% of the allotted schedule and may vary based on department demands and business need. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience 

  • Masters (M.S./M.A.) degree and two (2) years related laboratory experience; or Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) from four-year college or university in chemistry or related field plus four (4) or more years related laboratory experience required.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Must have an understanding of basic techniques and equipment of a biochemistry laboratory.  Must have relevant experience in the use of centrifuges, spectrophotometer, incubators, balances, pH meters, HPLC systems, mass spectrometer systems and other routine equipment. Good understanding of elementary chemical principles. Knowledge or familiarity with scientific terminology.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, biohazards, flammable liquids, risk of radiation, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. At times, the noise level can be louder and hearing protection may be required.
