Position Description
Product and Technical Development is looking for two co-ops to fill two separate gene therapy projects. The projects are as follows:
Biologics-Cell Line Technology
- We are seeking a motivated and creative individual to join this collaborative effort between both gene therapy and biologics-cell line technologies groups to contribute to ongoing efforts to develop and engineer viral vector and biologics production mammalian host cell systems. The successful candidate will be a part of both cell line technologies teams and gain experience in cell line development in multiple therapeutic production host cell systems. The candidate will also have opportunities to be exposed to other line functions such as upstream and downstream processing through collaborations and cross-training.
- Day-to-day responsibilities include passaging cultures, transfection experiments, cell line engineering, traditional molecular biology experiments, high throughput automation experiments. Data recording, interpretation, and presentation for ongoing work in group meetings are expected.
- Engineered cell lines will be the backbone of multiple efforts to increase AAV/mAb productivity and further understand how to drive product quality. By the end of the coop, the candidate will have hands-on experience in multiple industry-leading biologics production technologies and contribute to critical raw materials (cell lines) for the production of therapies.
Gene Therapy Drug Product
- We are seeking a motivated individual to join the Gene Therapy Drug Product team and help to develop new viral vector fill and finish technologies. This opportunity grants you a chance to learn about the drug product manufacturing development process including formulation and process development.
- You will work with Biogen engineer(s) to develop formulations and processes to enable a stable lyophilized drug product. The candidate will perform a variety of functions to support this goal consisting of formulation screening studies, forced degradation studies, and accelerated stability screening. Candidates must be able to effectively collaborate and remain organized to advance project goals for complex programs.
All applicants will be considered for both projects.
- Knowledge and experience in a laboratory environment
- Knowledge and experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- The ability to adapt to new technologies and work efficiently across teams
To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
- Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
