PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The purpose of the Formulation Technician position is to ensure that our product customer needs are met regarding the production of all media products.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Works directly within the Production and HEPATOPAC groups in the manufacturing of all internal and external media products.- Responsible for the cleaning and routine maintenance of all equipment.
- Ability to weigh chemicals, dispense, filter, aliquot, and label the prepared solutions and media kit components.
- Preparation of buffers and media from small and large-scale buffer prep, from less than 0.5 liters up to 50 liters.
- Identify and implement improvements for existing processes.
- Prepare and inspect equipment for use in chemical and bio-formulations. Set up pumps, filters, tubing connections, and mixers.
- Perform basic analytical testing.
- Responsible for the quality of the products produced.
- Continuously follows all safety requirements including PPE.
- Requests materials via Kanban system as needed.
- Performs work according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and departmental policies.
- Can complete batch records in accordance with Quality Assurance (QA) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP) protocols.
- Performs work according to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations as required by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
- Member of “on call” team at the Assistant level for the preparation of material from human sources.
- Maintains stock levels of internally utilized products.
- Utilizes sterile technique when required for scientific tasks.
- Maintains orderly, clean, and safe workplace.
- Troubleshoots and help with special projects and product development, as assigned.
- Complete trainings in a MasterControl as assigned.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily after appropriate training. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience
- Biotechnology Certification Completion OR
- BA/BS degree in a scientific field with 0-3 years relevant experience OR
- Prior relevant experience may be substituted for a degree.
Skills
Require:
- Computer literate – experienced with spreadsheets and word processing (MS Excel and Word)
- Ability to work on an “On Call” team.
- Ability to work at least one weekend a month with the HEPATOPAC manufacturing group.
- Experience with aseptic technique.
Prefer:
- Biological production experience preparing buffers and media.
- Experience in a laboratory setting.
- Experience with cell culture techniques.
- Aseptic technique
Plus Factors:
- Familiarity with GLP.
- Exposure to working with cryopreserved inventories.
