What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sequencing Lab Tech position at bioMerieux Inc.?
Position Summary:
Participate and assist in planning and conducting sequencing activities or techniques/ methods within R&D Microbiology in full compliance with current quality and safety standards.
Provide assistance and technical support for activities to improve or support existing products, methods or techniques.
Primary Duties:
- Handling of microbiological cultures, including bacteria, yeasts, moulds and mycobacteria species using appropriate safety precautions.
- Perform DNA/RNA extractions from bacterial samples
- Process samples utilizing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) as well as other assay platforms.
- Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
- Maintain internal documentation for all steps of the processes as outlined in SOPs
- Contribute to ongoing process improvement efforts
- Coordinate work assignments and be able to prioritize independently
- Participate in a team approach to workflow management of the lab
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
- Communicates results or problems to supervisor or senior staff members.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in life sciences/ Biology/ Molecular Biology/ Biochemistry or related field.
- 2 years of experience with PCR and Nucleic acid extraction, experience with NGS a plus
- Ability to acquire and perform new laboratory techniques
- Good communication skills in verbal and written English
- Good computer skills
- Good organizational skills
