Director, U.S. Distribution Operations
Responsibilities:
The Director, Distribution Operations works with key stakeholders to develop appropriate access and access solutions for patients and providers pre-launch through active distribution. Establishes and manages end to end, Order to Cash (OTC) for fulfilment of launching products, including Third Party Logistics Provider selection, implementation, and launch/post launch management.
This position participates in the development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for product launch and continual successful product delivery to customers. The Director, Distribution Operations will assist in the development and management of the go-to-market strategy from an operations perspective, ensuring Supply Chain, Labeling, Quality, Validation, Regulatory, Finance and other departments are aligned with the market requirements for demand planning, packaging, delivery, and post-delivery success in line with customer and corporate expectations.
Post launch, the Director Distribution Operations works collaboratively across Order Fulfillment, Distribution & Warehousing and Logistics & Network Development to ensure seamless customer support for the US Operation. This position is responsible for the management of all order processing activities and agreements related to the distribution of trade pharmaceutical products to direct customers; working to cross-functionally drive issue resolution, continuous improvement, and strategy implementation that bring value to BioNTech and its trade channel customers.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Collaborates with New Product Launch Team to develop cross functional project and communication pre-launch plans by ensuring all relevant parties are involved in the requisite conversations on market requirements, delivery aspects, and packaging to enable finished drug product meets business and market requirements.
- Provides oversight of activities related to the selection and management of a 3rd party logistic providers.
- Leads Sales Order to Cash Process of New Product Launches, including any ERP OTC system development/implementation.
- Responsible for Risk assessment and mitigation of Order Fulfillment Processes of the 3PL and alignment to BioNTech's standards and practices.
- Develops and implements performance requirements/metrics at the 3PL and distributor level to ensure timely access to BioNTech medications.
- Ensures adherence to the operational aspects of customer contracts: Wholesale Distribution Agreements, Redistribution Agreements, Specialty Distribution Agreements and Distribution Services Agreements.
- Implement distribution contracts and pull through strategies with customers to support launch efforts; deliver initial stocking goals at launch.
- Maintains a deep understanding of the Specialty distribution and Retail pharmacy channels; understands pharmacy capabilities and the competitive pharmacy marketplace to ensure that BioNTech maintains an industry leading approach to patient support in specialty distribution and retail pharmacy channels.
- Drives process improvements within Distribution through such activities as regular Value Stream Mapping exercises, development of continuous improvement plans, and fostering of process improvement behaviors.
- Conducts scheduling and planning activity to ensure stock availability to meet internal/external customer needs.
- Contributes to weekly distribution team meetings on important market issues such as Specialty Distribution programs.
- Provides channel analytics reporting to Trade to proactively manage performance standards to customer agreements.
- Handles day to day relationships with third party vendors in support of Distribution, Expired Returned Goods and Distribution Data Management.
- Monitors orders and sales insight (daily).
- Develops and executes the standard process to deliver product, in full, on time, ensuring standardized workflows.
- Develops and manages SOPs, Client Work Instructions, Job Aids, and Business Rules execution.
Minimum requirements:
- BS in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, Life Sciences or related discipline required. MBA or MS in Business Preferred.
- 10 - 12 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry and a minimum of 5 years of contracting experience
- Experience in distribution, marketing, finance, sales management, strategy, and pharmacy contracting
- Understanding of the US commercial and government healthcare environment
- Understanding of ex-US distribution
- Ability to lead cross-functional stakeholders through complex projects and work-streams
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Ability to rapidly assimilate information and to prioritize and manage multiple projects
- Prior experience with commercial Oncology/Specialty Pharma products
