As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you'll lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge, science-driven, Cloud-based technology solutions for our clients. From pre-sales scoping to design, implementation, testing, and maintenance, you'll help clients achieve their scientific mission with objective, technology-neutral infrastructure for science.
To excel in this role, you'll need to be a subject matter expert in Cloud technologies and practices. You'll work closely with clients to discover requirements and design, deploy, and manage advanced cloud-native data platforms, high performance computing (HPC) and storage systems, and other relevant computing infrastructure. Your deep curiosity about the latest advances in biomedical science and prior experience supporting scientific environments is a plus.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Expectations
- Develop solutions to address scientific computing needs that can work for either all-cloud or hybrid environments
- Communicate cloud and data platform design practices to help guide and influence scientific practices.
- Use modern cloud development practices, such as “infrastructure as code”
- Train scientists and technical professionals on cloud concepts and best practices related to scientific computing
- Provide thought leadership to the industry in the form of blog postings, whitepapers, and speaking engagements
Consulting Expectations
- Act as Cloud and Data Platform subject matter expert to provide day-to-day project coordination, planning, and implementation of multiple projects
- Participate in initial tech review calls and clarify specific requirements of each project, including project scope and objectives, budget, determining the necessary project resources, and technical feasibility
- Lead or participate in the drafting of project proposals and manage the lifecycle of internal and client document review until the proposal is approved
- Troubleshoot a variety of issues and collaborate with team members on solutions
- Ensure successful delivery of solutions that meet client expectations
- Act as the technical point of contact for clients ensuring communication throughout the implementation and execution of a project
Background and Experience
- Degree in science or engineering fields, with a preference for a focus on bioinformatics, data architecture, or data engineering for life sciences or a related discipline; graduate degree preferred or a combination of education and experience
- 10 years of experience in software development with at least 5 years working in the cloud preferred
- Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and/or Microsoft Azure experience
- Cloud certification and/or certification in systems administration or a related field is a plus
- Extensive experience leading complex scientific IT projects and project teams
- Passion for technology & science with a desire to stay up to date on the state-of-the-art in your field
- Excellent communication skills and the demonstrated ability to build rapport with both external clients and internal team members
- Organizational and time management skills with exceptional follow-through
- Proactive and innovative, able to adapt to change quickly
- Cognitive thinking skills that can assess and adapt to the various needs of a diverse stakeholder population
- Experience and desire to work remotely with approximately 25% domestic overnight travel
- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States and have or be able to qualify for government and customer security clearance
Work Environment
This job operates in an office environment, both in shared and home locations. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
