Director of Communications
Job Summary
The Director of Communications is responsible for actions that provide administrative support for the Senior Pastor and church staff. These actions shall further the mission of the church to make disciples of Jesus Christ. This position is directly supervised by the Senior Pastor. This position is full-time.
Education and Skills
Specialized training in office management is preferred for this position.
Graphic design skills are preferred for this position.
Social media skills and website design skills are preferred for this position.
Experience and Training
A minimum of three years of experience in a multi-staff setting is preferred. Training beyond mandatory education for this position should include continuing education events equal to approximately one continuing education unit for each year of service.
Level and Difficulty of Interpersonal Relationships
The Director of Communications must be able to relate well to people of all ages including those experiencing crisis situations. Good relationships must include appropriate communication skills, both written and verbal, meaningful encouragement, and the ability to administrate effectively. The Director of Communications must be able to report effectively upon request to various ministry teams, the church, and the Senior Pastor.

Responsibility for Programming Budget
The Director of Communications is responsible for planning and administration of the office budget. The amount of the budget is determined annually by the Church Council.
Administrative responsibilities for this budget include overall formation and preparation of the budget by the line item for approval, appropriate budget revision when requested by the Church Council and/or Senior Pastor, and responsible and timely requests for payment of budgeted expenditures through use of appropriate forms submitted to the Finance Office.

The Director of Communications is privy to confidential information and shall treat such information in a responsible manner. No breach of confidentiality will be tolerated.
Working Conditions
The Director of Communications shall participate fully as a member of the support staff as described by the Employee Handbook.
90-Day Probationary Period
There is a 90-day probationary period followed by a review with the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
Job Duties
1. Worship: edit and publish bulletins and sermon cards for all services - regular and special; coordinate special offerings, Easter lilies, and poinsettias.
2. Communications: relay information in a courteous and timely manner to all appropriate individuals.
3. Proofread all documents for accuracy, clarity, and spelling.
4. Publication and dissemination of a church newsletter.
5. Visitors - record and disseminate information.
6. Funerals - coordinate arrangements and set-up.
7. Membership - maintain updated list and provide accurate information as needed.
8. Charge Conference - coordinate the preparation of all materials for Charge/Church
Conference.
9. Coordinate the church calendar.
10. Recruit, train, and coordinate office volunteers.
11. Set-up and maintain a detailed instruction manual for this position.
12. Successful and cooperative formulation of performance goals and appropriate accomplishment of these goals under the direction of the Senior Pastor.
13. Personal and professional growth through continuing education experiences as requested by the Senior Pastor.
14. Maintain the church website and social media for the church.
15. Enter songs and liturgy into presentation software in the sanctuary computer for worship services.
16. Create artwork for sermon cards, advertisements, direct mail, worship backgrounds, and social media posts.
17. Be a team player in working with the senior pastor, fellow staff, and laity.
18. Other duties as assigned.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
