What are the responsibilities and job description for the Join the Fleet - Kitchen-Focused Fleet Member position at Black Fleet Brewing?
Black Fleet Brewing Taproom & Kitchen is seeking a kitchen-focused Fleet Member to join our crew. The opportunity is ideal for someone who has a minimum of one (1) year experience as a line cook, prep cook, or sous chef & is seeking to grow their knowledge & experience in a professional kitchen. Food preparation experience in a quick service establishment is also acceptable. As Black Fleet Brewing is an independent & locally owned brew pub, Fleet Members work directly with the leadership team, brewer, & taproom-focused Fleet Members to ensure patrons receive quality plates paired with their pints & other pours. The ideal candidate will build confidence with the leadership team throughout the training period due to the requirement to be able to generally self-direct after training.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Set up workstations with all needed ingredients & cooking equipment
- Prepare ingredients according to recipes to use in cooking (chopping & peeling vegetables, cutting meat, etc.)
- Cook food in various utensils or grillers
- Check food while cooking to stir or turn
- Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served
- Keep a sanitized & orderly environment in the kitchen
- Ensure all food & other items are stored properly
- Check quality of ingredients
- Monitor stock & rotate product
- Communicate orders when there are shortages or product is low
Skills
- Proven experience as a prep cook, line cook, or sous chef
- Existing knowledge of food safety procedures
- Experience in using cutting tools, cookware, & bakeware
- Knowledge of various cooking procedures & methods (grilling, baking, boiling, etc.)
- Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
- Ability to work both in a team & self-directed
- Very good communication skills
- Excellent physical condition & stamina
Compensation
Hourly wage starts at $18 per hour. Full-time Fleet Members (those working 30 or more hours per week) are eligible for benefits, including Health Insurance. Eligibility to join the tip pool is dependent on work performed (to be a part of the tip-pool, you must actively participate in customer service such as expediting, bussing tables, etc.).
Hours of Position
Availability required Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays for 7-10 hour shifts with opportunity to increase hours related to performance.
The majority of the available shifts occur during the public hours of operation of Black Fleet Brewing Taproom & Kitchen; however, hours vary by the needs of the Taproom & Kitchen. Additional hours often arise related to special events, large reservations, etc.
