The Server is responsible for providing excellent guest service by engaging the guest, exhibiting comprehensive menu and beverage knowledge, taking orders, efficiently and warmly delivering food, and accepting payment. The server impacts the restaurant by entertaining guests, helping and encouraging team members, and ensuring alcohol compliance and revenue growth.

• Guest service mentality; has a genuine desire to please the guest.
• Strong verbal communication and listening skills.  Ability to read write and speak in English
• Self-starter who is energetic and flexible. Identifies additional tasks to be completed and willingly assists others
• Maintains a calm, tactful demeanor when dealing with difficult situations
• Prioritizes responsibilities and achieves results through multi-tasking
• Forms strong working relationships within team
• Follows direction with focused attention
• Skill and coordination at using hands to write, pour, and carry several drinks, plates, etc. at the same time
• Ability to hear and respond to co-workers and guests in an often loud environment
• Exhibits a strong retention of information received by guests in order to provide expedient service and correct mistakes in a timely manner
• Must be able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for periods of up to 8 hours in length

Responsibilities:

GUEST

• Timing and Table Maintenance is a constant priority and focus
• Engage and entertain our guests by providing warm and friendly service, actively creating a sense of community within the establishment, and contributing to an environment of excellence.
• Expected to be knowledgeable and confident about menu items, wine, liquor, cocktails, specials, special requests, allergen compliance, general information, and the History of Black Rock. 
• Use up-selling techniques with every guest to enhance their experience.
• Must be able to calmly respond to any guests' needs and notify a manager when those needs cannot be met by yourself.
• Anticipate the needs of guests and continue to raise your own standards in regards to guest experience

TEAM

• Maintain a sense of citizenship by getting to work on time ready to work, doing the job to the highest standards, asking questions when unsure of an answer, and being the best you can be today and even better tomorrow.
• Doing your part as a team member, working “heads up” and “pilot to co-pilot” in order to see the opportunities to help others
• Asking for help early, in order to prevent problems or miscommunications.

OPERATIONS

• Sets up, maintains and operates dining areas and service stations.
• Checks Guest identification to ensure they meet requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages.
• Adheres to standardized portion sizes, quality standards and department rules and procedures.
• Takes drink and food orders and accurately inputs into POS system.
• Ensures the correct drinks and food ordered are delivered to the table/guest.
• Collects payment and makes correct change or processes credit card transactions.
• Practices safe food handling and cleanliness standards at all times.
• Sweeps, wet mops and/or brushes floors, as needed or directed by manager. Posts ‘wet floor’ sign to mopped floors.
• Busses tables and ensures marketing materials and menus are positioned appropriately.
• Ensures PCI credit card compliance.
• Unloads trucks, pallets, and cases of food and beverage and puts in assigned locations.

By pairing family recipes, a 755-degree volcanic stone, and a love for food, the Morganroth family knew they were a perfect fit for the restaurant industry; however, they had no prior restaurant experience, working only off their dream of what Black Rock could become.
​With a very determined family and help from the community, Black Rock grew into something remarkable. Voted the number one steakhouse in Michigan for three consecutive years, the family in 2013 entered a nationwide competition to be named “America’s Next Top Restaurant Franchise” and won first place. Today, Black Rock is expanding across the nation. We are home grown, and soon to be nationally known.
