The Managing Director is held accountable for managing the consulting offering portfolio, maintaining client satisfaction, growing the business, and contributing to the success of Black & Veatch Digital Advisory. Providing input to the strategy and direction for organization, this leader drives the process to develop new consulting offerings and manages team project execution to ensure client satisfaction and considerable business growth opportunities.
The Managing Director will drive the process to acquire new clients and engagements, and be responsible for all aspects of assigned engagements. The successful candidate will direct the development of processes and techniques to improve operations and develop marketable service offerings, contribute thought leadership, and provide technical or industry knowledge to contribute to the completion of all engagement phases. This team member may lead a large size effort or project team, may delegate team work assignments through various phases of an engagement, and may manage projects from prospect to client deliverable.
Additionally, the Managing Director, Digital Customer focuses on:
Management of existing and new consulting offerings in the following areas:
Customer information systems and customer experience
Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), meter data management (MDM) and data analytics
Demand response, energy efficiency, conservation, and consumer engagement
Behind-the-Meter (BTM) solutions, business models, and customer engagements with regard to power producers or prosumers of the utility
Identify and create innovative offerings and supporting solutions to specific target problems that address market needs of the evolving utility marketplace and progressive next-generation energy and water solutions, for utilities and commercial and industrial clients
Utilize deep subject matter knowledge and expertise to identify challenges within the market and develop our offering strategy and value proposition to respond to those challenges
Support the business development and consulting teams and seek out opportunities to collaborate with other B&V organizations in the pursuit of key business opportunities as needed
Key Responsibilities
Value Creation
Focus on developing solutions to the evolving and disruptive new energy economy primarily for utilities but also commercial and industrial companies
Act as the Product Manager for the new and existing offerings, including the development of traditional product lifecycles artifacts and activities
Actively coordinate with other Black & Veatch Divisions and potentially with outside partners to drive offerings and business
Solution Delivery
Drive early-stage project scoping/shaping in alignment with the practices vision for expansion
Guide team project delivery for execution effectiveness and client satisfaction
Manage project outcomes and risk awareness proactively
Growth
Build and coach a high-performing team, supporting knowledge transfer to junior team members
Partner with Digital Advisor business development leaders as well as other Black & Veatch client executives to identify, solicit and deliver innovative solutions to utility, commercial and industrial clients
Be actively involved with one or more key account teams, supporting the collaborative development of account plans that focus on maintaining senior executive relationships
Support the creation of and strengthen profitable relationships with our clients
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a related field: Engineering, Innovation, Product Development, Marketing, Entrepreneurship
MBA or other advanced degree in related field
15 years of management consulting experience within the energy, water, or utilities vertical
Strong knowledge and understanding of utilities industry; knowledge of industry business drivers and motivators, and transformation drivers and impacts
Understand the financial drivers and possess the business acumen to forecast, manage, and operate a significant project- based business
Skilled in constructing a deal win strategy, financial structure, and negotiate multi-year Statements of Work including terms, risk mitigation, pricing, and payment terms
Experience building a successful and sustainable consulting practice
Excellent communication, presentation, and social engineering skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience. Has successfully managed multiple engagements simultaneously. Contributor or leader to acquire new engagements. 12-15 years in a business/consulting environment. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
