BlackSky is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Events Manager to join our Marketing and Communications team. This pivotal role is responsible for planning, managing, and executing BlackSky's trade shows and exhibits (both domestic and international), and overseeing global events and sponsorships. The Events Manager will collaborate closely with the Marketing leadership team to align event strategies with company objectives and curate meaningful experiences with the BlackSky brand for customers, prospects, and the industry. This role will involve active engagement with Sales, Marketing, Product Marketing, Finance and Legal to craft the annual trade show schedule and budget.
While the locations listed in the job posting are ideal, we would love candidates near either our Herndon, VA or Seattle, WA offices. We may also consider remote candidates in certain states.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Marketing team and other internal stakeholders, as well as external vendor partners, to ensure that event execution aligns with the company's strategic objectives.
- Plan and manage tradeshows, industry events, and hosted client events. This includes creating and managing event websites, deploying communications, and generating registration reports within an event management software system.
- Manage tradeshow display houses and online store/promotions companies to secure booth materials, promotional items, and marketing materials required for each event.
- Manage event suppliers and vendors for event service orders, registration lists, housing arrangements, audio-visual needs, room set-ups, meeting materials, and catering.
- Assist in developing and proofing content for physical event booths, websites, event emails, and other event materials.
- Maintain meticulous administrative and procedural processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Create agendas, supply advance materials, and oversee follow-up for briefings and events.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Finance to reconcile event cost center budgets and provide future event budget estimates.
- Work with the Marketing team to create and manage project timelines for event deliverables, including those that involve outside vendors.
- Stay updated on industry trends and technology, sharing best practices with the team.
- Support the development of survey summary reports and other post-event metrics to identify success and areas for improvement.
- Aid in efforts to develop and maintain relevant event databases and mailing lists.
- Provide on-site support at events and bring energy, creativity, and innovative ideas to contribute to a successful team.
- Demonstrate event planning and event management best practices.
- Ensure that all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations are observed wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of BlackSky.
Logistics Responsibilities:
In addition to the core responsibilities, the Events Manager will also be responsible for various logistical tasks, including:
- Coordinate booth space logistics, which may involve selecting booth space location, determining size, curating the product mix, and aligning marketing messages with event objectives.
- Manage conference registrations for trade shows, ensuring that the necessary team members are registered and prepared to represent BlackSky as well as organizing housing arrangements, such as securing hotel room blocks for event attendees and participants.
- Overseeing the inventory of marketing collateral and trade show properties, ensuring that all necessary materials are available for each event.
- Handling the ordering of show services, materials, and freight, including shipping preparation for events.
- Managing the processing of invoices for payment related to event expenses and logistics.
- Developing concise briefing documents for each event, providing essential information to team members and participants to ensure a smooth event experience.
- Maintaining the global event calendar internally and on BlackSky.com to keep stakeholders informed about upcoming events.
- Serving as booth host for trade shows as scheduled, providing a welcoming and informative presence at BlackSky's exhibition.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of five-to-seven years of experience in event or tradeshow management, preferably in a corporate environment.
- Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Experience working in a dynamic environment with a track record of successfully executing multiple events.
- Strong program, project, and time management skills.
- Highly organized, detail-focused, results-driven, and able to handle stress and last-minute, urgent requests.
- Dedicated and creative thinker with problem-solving skills. The ability to think on your feet and make quick decisions is essential.
- Familiarity with event accounting and billing processes.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-departmental and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
- Strong customer service skills are needed for vendor relations, client interaction, and stakeholder presentations.
- An undergraduate degree is preferred, preferably in event management, marketing, or communications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with technology or aerospace industries.
- An understanding of marketing best practices.
- Proficiency in uploading lists, deploying communications, and extracting reports for ROI.
- Experience managing merchandise vendors

The anticipated salary range for candidates in Seattle, WA is $100,000-120,000 per year. The final compensation package offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on specific background and education. BlackSky is a multi-state employer, and this pay scale may not reflect salary ranges in other states or locations outside of Seattle, WA.

Salary : $100,000 - $120,000
