We are in search of a Shop Trainee for our Channelview, TX office.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION :
Work under immediate supervision to learn and become proficient in the aspects of engine repair and service.
SUPERVISION :
Reports to : Shop Supervisor
Supervises : This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Assist and perform required maintenance under the guidance of Shop Supervisor and / or Engineers.
- Follow procedures including documenting all work performed.
- Assist with maintaining the facility by following proper procedures, housecleaning, and performing general maintenance duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be able to read, write and speak clearly in the English language.
- High School diploma or GED required;
- Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, including but not limited to Excel and Microsoft Word software.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid TWIC card.
- Strong mechanical background.
- Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are critical as are leadership skills.
- Must maintain a clear driving record and be insurable through the company’s automobile insurance carrier.
PREFERRED
- Three (3) to five (5) years related experience and / or certified engine mechanic training.
- Experience working in barge maintenance and / or around shipyard repair activities.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS :
This position requires driving a vehicle as necessary for errands and business related meetings. Employee and / or applicant must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History check and possess and maintain a current valid driver's license in their state of residence.
Requires occasional travel (once or twice each month) by automobile or airplane.
