JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, and facilitates a program of recreation services in order to assist patients in recovering from or adjusting to mental illness. The Recreation Therapist provides recreational resources and opportunities in order to improve health and well-being. Also, participates in the interdisciplinary treatment planning team. This position requires providing services to one or more age populations, including child through geriatric, in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Blessing Hospital. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values while supporting the strategic plan, goals, and direction of the Performance Improvement Process (PIP) at Blessing Hospital.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training/Experience:

REQUIRED:

Work requires the level of knowledge normally required through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Recreation/Leisure Education or a related field from an accredited College or University.

Successful completion of a clinical Internship (400 hours) and must be NCTRC certified or eligible for certification within 6 months of date of hire.

Approximately three to six months on-the-job experience necessary to become familiar with Department policies and procedures, to complete training and to gain knowledge of community resources and programs.

License/Certifications/Special Requirements:

Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with health care professionals and establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.

Analytical skills necessary to design therapeutic recreation services, evaluate effectiveness of these services and recommend ways to improve these services. Work requires the ability to perform activity analysis/modification for specific leisure skills and equipment modification for execution of treatment services.

CPR certification is required.

Evening and weekend availability schedule required.
