As part of a passionate and accomplished team of Manufacturing Engineers, you will directly impact the future of space flight and help us make progress towards our mission of building the road to space through reusable rockets. You will also share in the team’s impact on all aspects of machining, including translating engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into consistent manufacturing processes which focus on quality and repeatability. You will work closely with design engineers, CNC programmers, and tooling engineers to develop machining processes for tight tolerance and complex rocket engine components (i.e. thrust chambers, injectors, turbo pumps, etc). As a member of the manufacturing engineering team, you will lead DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design and fabrication. Additional responsibilities include: Define, develop, implement, optimize and own machining processes of rocket engine components. Conduct fabrication DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design and build. Provide data to drive decisions from DFMA and PFMEA studies as well as historical actuals. Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into consistent machining processes which can be deployed across multiple manufacturing sites. Identify, develop, and deploy new machining methods (or refine existing) to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build schedule. Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define machining, inspection, and rework processes. Own BOM structures and work order creation/management. Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing. Utilize lean manufacturing methodology for process development and problem solving. Design, procure, install, and qualify custom manufacturing equipment/fixtures. Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions. Troubleshoot and operate equipment as required. Travel required for training and other support activities. Collaborate closely with internal customers (M&P engineers, test technicians, manufacturing engineers, management and design/analysis engineers) to define requirements and align tools to meet company objectives. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university. 3 Years of manufacturing engineering experience 2 Years of writing work instructions Mastery of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing including working knowledge of GD&T. Experience in machining of high tolerance metallic components. Proven experience and successful track record developing/starting new manufacturing processes. Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc) Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100. Flexibility with regard to occasional support of second shift. Must be fluent in writing technical, English, work instructions. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Must be physically able to: Support production floor activities Climb stairs and work in small areas Lift and carry 40 lbs. Desired: Advanced degree in Engineering Programming/operation of CNC machines Experience in machining of exotic materials (i.e. super alloys) Advanced CMM multi-axis data interpretation with GD&T Demonstrated signature authority on aerospace drawings for flight programs.
