Your Role
The Phlebotomist, Certified will report directly to the Operation Supervisor and will serve as the initial point of contact for the Antelope Valley Clinics. The Phlebotomist will interact telephonically and electronically with members and providers as per established protocol or direction to ensure that members are effectively and efficiently managed through the outreach, engagement, and care management processes. The Phlebotomist will directly help members as their Primary and Urgent Care health needs require and will support members in capturing required labs and tests, and other services related to the member's care coordination, as ordered by the clinic providers. The Phlebotomist will also serve as Medical Assistant, back office to provide support to providers as needed.
Your Work
In this role:

- Prepare patients for examination by recording medical history and confirming purpose of visit
- Ability to address daily EMR task assigned to them (Jellybeans
- Perform preliminary tests, blood pressure, weight, and temperature (point of care testing)
- Back up phones when needed
- Perform standardized and specialized phlebotomy procedures on patients of all ages
- Proper patient identification and specimen labeling
- Determine the right venipuncture method based on patient age, health, etc
- Uses proper sterilization techniques
- Answers patient questions regarding blood draws
- Adheres to all relevant health and safety standards while working
- Specimen receiving and specimen processing
- Patient check-in and order entry of laboratory tests in the system
- Perform preliminary tests, blood pressure, weight, and temperature (point of care testing)
- Back up to phones when needed
- Assists with system letters, fulfillment, and other requests for information and data entry
- Documents all patient specific information in appropriate information system
- Promote and maintain and ensure a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
- Telephonic outreach to members as directed by protocol
- Knowledge of county specific requirements and services, employer-specific benefits, external partners and be able to understand their impact of the Antelope Valley Promise Health Plan Clinics
- Assists with system letters, fulfillment, and other requests for information and data entry
- Provides administrative/clerical support
- Documents all patient specific information in appropriate information systems
- Assists in verifying health plan benefits and coordinating care coordination services
- Ability to run eligibility in BSC portal and Medi-Cal website
- Assist with obtaining and maintaining updated patient demographics
- Assist with incoming medical record request as directed by protocol
- Assist with no show letters
- Provides outreach to members who have outstanding healthcare initiatives such as labs for annual physical and initial health assessments
- Demonstrates cultural competence to work effectively, respectfully, and sensitively within the client's cultural context
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications
- Miscellaneous task assigned by leadership to ensure clinic needs are met
- Works under limited supervision
Your Knowledge and Experience
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
- Requires at least 5 years of prior relevant experience
- Requires Certification in Phlebotomy
- Requires a Medical Assistant Certificate
- Certified Medical Assistant is desired but not required
- A minimum of 2 years' combined experience in a clinical practice in the hospital, outpatient, health plan, community health, or other related managed care setting
- Health insurance/managed care experience (Medi-Cal)
- Knowledge of eClinical Works (EMR) is desired but not required
- Bilingual- Ability to test and certify for Spanish language proficiency
Pay Range:
The pay range for this role is: $ 19.83 to $ 27.76 for California.
