Ice Technician / Zamboni Driver
Position(s): Ice Technician
Department: Operations
Reports To: Rink Manager or General Manager
Job Type: Full and Part Time Positions Available. Must be available to work nights and weekends, and some holidays. Shifts range depending on schedule of facility events. Previous experience driving ice resurfacers (Zamboni or Olympia) is required.
Job Summary:
The Ice Technician is responsible for a variety of tasks during their shifts as a member of the Operations Team. The team member will provide superior customer service to guests at all times by providing a clean, safe, and welcoming environment while adhering to Company Policies, Procedures, and Best Practices.
Ice Technician Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Performs quality and safe ice resurfacing based on schedule of events for the ice rink. Prior driving experience required.
- Safely maintain ice resurfacer (Zamboni or Olympia), ice edger, and other related ice making equipment
- Perform routine monitoring of the ice making plant (compressors, chiller system, dehumidification system, condenser system, etc)
- Complete maintenance logs and designated checklists as outlined by Supervisors
- Enforce facility posted rules to ensure the safety of all guests
- Program and event set up and tear down including, but not limited to: various sporting equipment, tables/chairs, staging, signage, and other items as assigned by Supervisors
- Basic Landscaping related duties such as weed control, mulching, clean up
- Basic Snow and Ice Maintenance duties such as sidewalk/lot shoveling and salting
- Perform locker room cleaning and maintenance checks
- Provide janitorial upkeep throughout their shift. Maintains arena to include sweeping, mopping, and buffing floors; vacuuming rugs, washing windows, replacing light bulbs, emptying trash, dusting furniture, and cleaning/sanitizing bathrooms and locker rooms
- Basic construction and maintenance duties including, but not limited to: painting, drywall repair, and glass/wood board replacement and associated clean up with these duties
- Provide fast and courteous service to all customers
- Other tasks and duties as assigned by Supervisors
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License required
- CIT or CRA via US Ice Rink Association preferred, but not required
- Previous ability to operate heavy machinery including, but not limited to Ice Resurfacer (Zamboni or Olympia), ice edger, forklift, scissor lift, and articulating boom lift preferred but not required
- Basic knowledge of standard ice maintenance tools, methods, practices, and materials including but not limited to; edging, dry planning, flooding low spots, filling holes and divots, and fixing hockey lines as needed.
- Basic knowledge of construction, mechanical engineering, and/or refrigeration preferred
- Flexibility to work late nights and weekends
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment and deal with multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work in different climates, ranging from cold to hot, associated with an ice rink and indoor multipurpose sport arena
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude with excellent attention to detail
- Organizational and time management skills, with ability to problem solve under pressure
- Excellent customer service, written, and verbal communication skill
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, at times with minimal or no supervision
