What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal, Business Analysis position at BNY Mellon?
Overview
As BNYM continue in their transformation and digitization of their payments processing platform and associated processes we are looking for a candidate to fulfil a role in the Payments Business Analyst group. This Business Analyst will be responsible for:
Eliciting, challenging, and prioritizing requirements
Creation of User Stories covering Business and Functional Requirements for projects large and small, ranging from small functional enhancements to large multi-year transformation projects.
Driving business architectural solutions focused on flexibility, time to market and re-usability
Working with business and technology partners to provide a seamless experience to users both internal and external when interacting with payment systems
Supporting testing of new or enhanced applications and/or systems and providing guidance to team members on complex testing tasks including case development, requirement traceability analysis, test preparation, script writing, and functional test execution
Working with business and technology teams to develop technology roadmap strategy
Preferred Experience:
10 years’ experience in Payments technology and/or Operations/Business - ideally both.
Extensive experience as an IT Business Analyst at major financial services company
Payment Domain Knowledge base:
A strong business and technical knowledge in disciplines surrounding a High and Low Value Payment Processing
An understanding of an end to end flow of various Payment methods from initiation to settlement and tracking
Payment messaging such as MT, MX formats, ISO200022 standards and FED/CHIP formats and interoperability among these formats
Payment files processes
Emerging technologies, use of APIs, concepts such as Blockchain
While focus is on payment processing knowledge of the following areas is also critical:
Knowledge of Development Lifecycles and Agile approach to project implementation and software used to support same: JIRA, BluePrint, Confluence
Account static data management
Payment tracking mechanisms such as GPI
User Interface design
Technical background with knowledge of SDLC, JSON, XML and ability to write SQL queries
Experience working with waterfall and agile development methodologies

Manages the project scope, objectives, constraints and assumptions for a large, strategic, multi-year program. Provides guidance in development of the technical design, test plans, and user documentation. Leads implementation/conversion strategy planning and implementation. Manages scope and change throughout the initiative utilizing formal change control and requirements traceability.
Gathers and analyzes information and provides recommendations to address strategic business objectives that span multiple, global business and technology areas. Participates in industry forums and keeps current on domain knowledge for their specific business and application areas of expertise. Applies experiences with existing software and/or systems development processes to define and collect metrics and develop better processes to be used in the future. Actively influences software and/or systems development process improvement initiatives. N/A. Contributes to the achievement of related area objectives.
Bachelor's degree in business or technical-related discipline, or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree preferred. 10-12 years of experience in providing consulting advice to senior IT and business management required; experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.
