Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
- The primary responsibility of the BSMART Counselor is to assist the ER physician and on-call psychiatrist with the assessment and disposition of patients who present with a psychiatric illness in the Emergency Room setting.
- The primary responsibility of the Access Responder is to provide confidential screening via telephone for psychiatric, behavioral and chemical dependency problems to Access center callers, including the person in crisis, a friend or family member, or referring professional. Responsible for managing all aspects of screening, triage, and referral services for the Access center, a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week crisis intervention, assessment, referral and admission service. Employee provides continuity of care by assisting unit in admissions/discharges and overall flow.
Employment Qualifications
- . Master’s degree in social work or counseling
- Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Professional Counselor (LPC) preferred.
- Work requires two years of demonstrated experience working with patients who have psychiatric illness, chemical dependency issues, and case management experience.
- Knowledge of abnormal psychology and mental health problems.
- Knowledge of appropriate clinical screening and interventions with patients.
- Ability to effectively interact with persons of widely diverse roles, backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic classes, and with those in crisis or who are resistant or negative towards intervention.
- Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and their families,
- Demonstrates a high level of communication, organizational skills, and assessment skills and is able to work independently.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the utilization review process.
