Role Overview:

We are seeking a Principal Engineer for Fly-By-Wire Flight Control Systems to join our team. As a member of Boom Supersonic’s world class team, you will be responsible for developing architectures and identifying the requisite technologies for Overture’s Flight Control System, developing the certification plan, overseeing the development and certification activities through type certification of Overture.

Responsibilities:

  • Work hand-in-hand with the Director of Electro-Mechanical Systems to architect the Controls & Electronics and work cooperatively with the Control Law, Performance and Stability and Controls Groups to find solutions that maximize the performance of Overture.
  • Provide technical oversight during execution of trade studies for the electronics architectures for the control of Overture’s Electro-Mechanical Systems.
  • Provide technical oversight during the development of CATIA layouts, schematics and computer aided engineering models with respect to electromagnetic environments and system safety requirements.
  • Throughout the certification program, provide technical oversight during the development of aircraft and system requirements and the associated development assurance activities, and furthermore provide technical oversight for the item-level development assurance activities when the system-level requirements are allocated to software and/or airborne electronic hardware.
  • Represent Electro-Mechanical Systems and Boom Supersonic Engineering when interfacing with the Federal Aviation Administration and any Foreign Civil Aviation Authority.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree in engineering with 15 or more years of experience in aerospace or an equivalent combination of technical education and aerospace experience
  • 15 years of experience, including at least one aircraft program from initial concept through flight test and certification.
  • Substantial experience with 14 CFR Part 21 and 14 CFR Part 25, or EASA Part 21 and CS-25, as they pertain to Flight Control Systems.
  • Active appointment as an Electrical Systems with Software Level A and Airborne Electronic Hardware Level A delegations Federal Aviation Administration Delegated Engineering Representative.
  • Experience executing systems engineering processes during a 14 CFR Part 25 certification program satisfying the aircraft and system development assurance objectives as described in ARP4754A.
  • Experience applying the safety assessment process as described in ARP4761 to high-integrity airplane systems, i.e., flight controls, landing gear, hydraulics, air data systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; can lead a multi-disciplinary team through the process of solving complex technical problems.
  • Proven track-record mentoring early-career engineers by imparting technical knowledge and offering professional development guidance thereby accelerating their ability to operate independently at a level above their level of experience
  • Team building communication skills, the ability to interface effectively with different groups internally and externally.

Nice to have: 

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with certification activities pertaining to aircraft electrical and electronic system lightning protection as described in AC 20-136B, particularly as they pertain to flight controls.
  • Experience with certification activities pertaining to aircraft electrical and electronic system operation in the high-intensity radiated fields environment as described in AC 20-158, particularly as they pertain to flight controls.

Compensation:

The Base Salary Range for this position is $144,000 - $180,000 and represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives/equity, an open PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
