Boon Boona Coffee is a Black-owned roastery/cafe out of Renton, WA. We're looking to recruit folks of diverse backgrounds, gender and sexual identities, and lived experiences to work as Baristas. Ideal candidate is anyone who is kind and self-motivated, interested in coffee and professional growth, and willing to teach and learn from us.

Boon Boona Coffee began its journey 10 years ago by procuring quality African green coffee for the East African community. In January 2019, we opened our brick & mortar roastery/café in Renton, and opened our second location in Seattle April 2021. We are committed to nurture a culture that is empathetic, cooperative, arts & science-driven, and community oriented. We highly value each member's contribution to the Boon Boona culture, and we encourage them to introduce their coffee and non-coffee passions and interests to us.

We are also dedicated to empowering our employees. Boon Boona Coffee has an established guidelines that structures how and when the support for professional growth is provided, so it is transparent and accessible to all. Some areas of the professional development opportunities include:

• Guidance and support to participate in coffee competitions
• Coffee sensory evaluation (cupping) training that is designed with CQI's Q Grader curriculum in mind
• Training on sample & profile roasting upon demonstrated interest
• Financial and logistical support for extra-curricular projects when possible

Position's basic responsibilities:

• Be empathic and open-minded with your teammates
• Provide engaging and polite customer service
• Maintain a calm and cooperative working environment during high volume periods
• Prepare coffee, espresso- and tea-based drinks according to recipes
• Handle money with accuracy and accountability
• Demonstrate punctuality
• Stock, order and track inventory of ingredients, supplies and merchandise
• Perform open, close and side-work duties as defined by cafe checklist
• Communicate clearly and directly with cafe manager about any issues that arise
• Seek opportunities for professional growth

Physical components and requirements of this position:

• Standing for extended periods
• Stooping frequently
• Repetitive motions
• Occasionally lifting up to 30-40 lbs
