Description:
The 35 Ton Crane Operator shall operate in the functions of transporting material in the Mill with the overhead crane per plant policies and procedures. He/she will ensure a safe and compliant operation during his/her shift.
Working Conditions:
Working conditions are the same as the conditions provided in the pipe manufacturing industry. Working environment temperature is in parallel with weather conditions. It requires working in dusty, noisy, and greasy environments. Work involves lifting, pulling, and/or pushing of materials and products up to 50 pounds. Standing and walking considerable distances. Operation requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include but is not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hard hats. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
1. Qualifications:
1.1. A High School diploma or the equivalent of one year of experience with keeping track of inventory of material transfers and moving, and loading pipe with 35 Ton Overhead Crane.
1.2. Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.
1.3. Manual dexterity required for operating, machinery, hand tools, and handheld technical devices.
1.4. Knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and Overhead Crane operation.
1.5. Employee must be able to work with a flexible schedule which may require rotating shifts, overtime, and weekends.
2. Responsibilities:
2.1. Inspect cables or grappling devices for wear and tear.
2.2. Perform a visual inspection before the beginning of the shift and report any issues to the Supervisor.
2.3. Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
2.4. Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, or grappling devices, reporting repairs as necessary.
2.5. Review daily work or delivery schedules to determine orders, sequences of deliveries, or special loading instructions.
2.6. Ensure the supply and control of the necessary lifting equipment (Chains, Slings, C Hooks, etc.)
2.7. Arrangement of the side surfaces of the slitted coil in the desired order.
2.8. Managing the slitted coil stock area and arranging it according to work orders.
2.9. Communicating and working together with the Slitting and Yard operators.
2.10. Submitting daily reports and requests to her/his managers.
2.11. Placing the Crane Remote Control in the defined area at the beginning and end of the shift
2.12. Load or unload pipe bundles from and to racks or move containers to storage bins, using 35-ton crane equipment.
2.13. Employees must follow the 5S implementation procedure.
2.14. Employees must follow all PPE policies and safety rules.
3. Activities:
3.1. Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
3.2. Perform and fill out the job safety analysis form daily and/or Crane pre/post-inspection Checklist.
3.3. Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess challenges.
3.4. Maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area and keep it free and clear of debris.
3.5. Check that all machinery is properly inspected and serviced before starting up and during the shift
3.6. Assists in the repair and replacement of equipment during maintenance shutdowns.
3.7. Communicate with the crew to achieve a quality product.
3.8. Assist in changeovers and Mill stops.
3.9. This position may require operating a Forklift in an “as-needed basis”.
3.10. Other duties as assigned.
4. Authority and Obligation:
4.1. This position has the authority to operate any cranes 35-tons and below.
4.2. This position has the authority to stop any Crane operation at any time that is deemed necessary for reasons of safety, quality, or priority.
