JOB SUMMARY:
The School Nurse serves a pivotal role that bridges health care and education and will manage and coordinate many responsibilities in order to ensure the well-being of our community. The nurse reports directly to CFOO and works in close partnership with the Head of School, Division Heads, student support team, staffulty, the MRC team, students’ health care providers, students, and families to promote health and wellness at Bosque School.
RESPONSIBILITIES (partial list):
- Collect and maintain all health records before and during the school year and communicate with appropriate constituencies as needed regarding collaboration and compliance.
- Manage relevant nursing software platforms (Magnus, etc.)
- Develop and manage individual health care plans for students with medical conditions and collaborate with teachers, learning specialists, counselors, administrators, the student’s health care providers, and parents to support student needs.
- Assess health complaints and manage appropriate treatment and referral, within the scope of professional nursing practice. Act as a liaison between school personnel, family, and health care providers.
- Under New Mexico Board of Pharmacy requirements and in conjunction with the school's consulting pharmacist, manage and administer prescription and emergency medications and delegate/train staff to administer medication when the nurse is not present.
- Manage and administer over the counter medications with signed permission from parent/guardian.
- Conduct and report required health screenings on students as recommended in the New Mexico School Health Manual and follow-up with parents and healthcare providers as needed for failed screenings.
- Create, maintain, update, and implement school health policies.
- Administer and document first aid care, medications, and medically prescribed services to students, faculty, and staff as needed.
- Monitor and manage immunization compliance and organize flu (and other) vaccine clinics with partnering healthcare professionals.
- Work in partnership with the Summer Camp Director to manage the summer camp medical forms process and compliance, camper medical assessment, and provide medical care to the summer camp population (kindergarten to high school)
- Hire, lead, supervise, and evaluate needed nursing support staff (could include summer nurse, sub nurses)
- Manage illness outbreaks and communicate with appropriate constituencies as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am-3:30 pm, with flexibility required for extended hours/overtime to support events, meetings, and as needed responsibilities.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- Licensed Registered Nurse New Mexico
- BLS/AED Certifications
- 3-5 years of professional nursing experience (school nursing and/or pediatric nursing preferred)
- Hearing and Vision Screening Certification Preferred
- Strong command of the Google Suite is preferred. Proven skills in learning and developing competency with new technology platforms and systems required
- Outstanding organizational and project management skills
- Able to make quick decisions, take initiative, be highly flexible, and prioritize tasks
- Warm, approachable, patient, and personable affect with all constituents
